On a September morning in 1939, sixteen eager boys and girls entered the first gr de at Fortville School A few of these were Alberta Denney, Janet Martln, nrline Lummis, Helen Sharrett, Floyd Lew rk, Bruce Corman, and James Fisher with our first teacher, Miss Jarrett, 'the little herdu took a train ride to Anderson Some of the mothers met us and brought us home Our number increased to twenty one in the second grade Jewel hichwine moved here to help increase our number Mrs Reichenbach xas our second grade teacher That year we visted the airport in Indianapolis In our third year of school, we had several new and different experiences Mlss House, our teacher, took our growing flock to the Chilcren's Iuseum in Indianapolls ning a shower for her Moving on to the fourth grade, Miss Schwartz was our teacher Indivldual health ch rts and weekly dictlonary contests were introduced to us Jhen we progressed on to the fifth grade, there was some doubt whether much was achleved that year The reason was th t we had flle dlfferent teachers By now, we had several new members in our class Nancy Swarts, Joann Gudgel, and Robert Smith came here from Mc Cordsville Upon entering the sixth grade, to some it was an intro duction to high school, to others it meant it wouldn't be long until they could use cosmetics Miss Leonard had the hard task of preparing us for high school hveryone was thrilled belng on the high school side The class st rted things rolllng by electing Jean Small as president, Larraine Reeder as vlce president, Janet Martin as secretary, Helen Sharrett as treasurer, and Mrs DeCorsey as sponsor Alberta Cramer came back after being gone for a couple of years O I 'z -1 '.At Christmas, Miss House became Mrs. Dennis. We had fun plan- The farther we advanced the more important our nllttlen number felt The eighth grade class offlcers were pres ident Helen Sharrett, vice president Floyd Lewark, secretary Alberta Denney, treasurer Joann Gudgel Mrs Owens had the honor of being our class sponsor Sharron Sigler and Kenneth Graham were new students in our class As usual, the class of 'Sl entered high school as out standing green freshies Our number was unusually small for a fresh an class Alberta Denney presi ent, Robert Smith vice presi ent, Kenneth Graham secretary, and Janet M rtln treasurer were our officers for our first year of high school The glrls were joining the Sunshine Society Under the direction of our sponsor, Mr Bailey, the group was making plans for our Halloween Carnival Our show was the unforgetable HL1fe of Kllroyn Frances Vaughn was one of the few new students that year A memorable occassion was our class party It was the night of the tornado that completely destroyed one town and damaged much property Having lr Mosele for sponsor, our officers for our Robert mlth vlce preswdent, Helen Sharrett secretary, and Erline ummis treasurer nThe Silly Sophomore Circusn was our H lloween Carnival show that ye r Ralph Sears moved here from Ladoga to dd to our class The class decided on gray sweaters wlth royal blue numbers outlined in white There was much to look forward to in our Junior YL r After electing Miss Bower for sponsor, Lrlnnc Lummis pres ident, Alberta Denney vice president, Helen Sharrett sec retary, and Ralph Sears treasurer s the officers for the class of '51 The thought of the comlng play entltled, WHe Couldn't M rry Fiven, brought much excitement to the jolly juniors We closed the year w1th a vlsit to Victory Field to see the Indlanapolis Indians 0 I : ' I 0 I O V l m . 5 - A 8 . . , l O O O I 1 , ' , , second year in high school were: Janet Martin president, L . O The long waited year of school a rived at last It was unbelievable that we were seniors already The class of 51 began the year by electing hrline nummis president, Helen Sharrett vice president, Janet Martin secretary, Ralph Sears treasurer Miss Bower was elected as class sponsor the second consecutive year Plans were made immedlately for the class play,nOn with the Newn, which was given November 9 Senior pictures were taken at Porter Studios in Ind ianapolis Upon receiving them most of us wondered if that were really we In March, the senior glrls were entertained by the Business and Professional Women's Club at a dinner at the Methodist Church b sement Among our souvenlrs are memories of our trip to Wash ington, D C which followed our Commencement and ended our high school days The class of 'lO5lH wills lots of good times to the class of 'l95? Erline Lummis wills her ability to be junior and senior class president to Rod Kendrick Janet Martin wills her ability as yell leader for three years to arolyn Gibson and Rosalyn Kelly Jewel Richwine wills her ability to play the plano to M1ss rouch Ralph Sears wills his art ability to Max Vaughn Helen Sharrett wills her black hair to allison Mollen kopf Sharron Cigler wills lots of luck and a h ppy future to the class of Hl95lN Robert Smith wills h1s farmin ability to Rex Brown Nancy Swarts wllls her ability to be in M H for seven years to Dora Demi Briles Frances Vaughn wills her job of wrlting teen news to Dean White wills his humorous ways to anyone who wlll keep it in good shape Cazki IO Pile y May 23 , 1963 Dear Diary, Today on my afternoon off from the Los Angels Public Library, went to the local fortune teller She told me some surprislng facts about my school chums Many of them have done very :ell for themselves The most surprising story was about Sharron Sigler She is gettin ready to leave for her california home for the summer after playlng rofesslonal basketball with the Kenosha Bluegackets throughout the past wlnter D a Carolyn Suiter, who is cute from all views. l 0 C O g N v 0 Alberta Cramer is working at the J Mallory Company in Indianapolis as a private secretary for the vice pres ident A commissioned officer in the U S Navy is James Fisher He is working towards the rank of Captain Frances Vaughn has finally settled down after tr veling around the U 5 for ten years as a saleslady for large beautician corporation She is noz living in Wilkinson with her husband Robert Smith owns a cattle ranch in California He is getting about fifteen hundred head of cattle n the market each year The assistant head nurse at Methodist Hospital in Ind Helen sharrett is at home in Michigan, taking care of her four children She has been doing some substitute teach ing at Munscn Grade Schools near there The Chevrolet Oldsmobile dealership for the Frankfort district has been awarded to Ralph Sears, who is building a big business Bruce Corman is star quarter back on the Chicago Bears' football team after leaving Notre Dame Alberta Denney is working in Indianapolis at the Fidellty Trust Company, now that her twin girls are in school Joann Gudgel is a private secretary to the president of the Allison factory near Indianapolis Dean White is at Daytona Beach, Florida, watching his three stock cars make bids for the championship title The manager of the Indiana State Library is Erline Lummis She finally got this position after being assistant for six years Kenneth Graham is the head salesman for the J C Penny Company in Chicago He has made several advancements lately Mary Holman was a private secretary until five years ago when she got married She now lifes near Noblesville Floyd Lewark is the head of the tool and dye division at Guide Lamp factory at Anderson He is residing 1 Fortville . C. . ianapclis is Jewel Richwine.
