Under the guldance of Mr Charles Youngblood and the Y M C A of Indiana, the Hi Y organization was launched for the flrst time at Fortville High School The officers were president, Robert Lummis, vice president, Jim Deakyne, secretary, Robert Lacy, and treasurer, Robert Norris During the year there were several outstandlng speak ers, Miss Marie Adams, a local missionary who has worked in China, Moses Mahoi a native from Africa who is studying at Indiana Central Co lege, and Rev Estal Taylor, the minister of the local Chrlstian Church In the fall, the organizatlon sent a large dellgation to the Fall Dlstrict Meetlng at New Castle It was voted at this meetlng that the Sprlng Conventlonbe held at Fortville The Sprlng Conventlon was held on March the 22, at the high school building There we e seventeen schools repre sented from Distrlct 5 The topis of the conventlon was, 'It's Your Life ' This toplc was declded upon in a meeting Indianapolis the preceeding January From thls maln topic there were s1X dlSCHSSiOH groups that presented the diff erent phases of the main topic The evening meal was held ln the high school gym The Band Parents prepared the meal and the Sunshlne Society served The special music was fur nished by the Arthur Jordan Conservatory of Muslc and Mary Lou Brandom Donald Kellermeyer, a member of the H1 Y, gave the welcome address Mrs Rickel led the group singlng Rev stal Taylor gave the address of the afternoon night a panel on the toplcs discussed in the afternoon was given by some of the flslting organizations Amo g the other activitl s the organlzatlon undertook were a bake sale and hat ard coat check system atthe home basketball game Ak?
