The Golden Trail Brilliant costumes, snappy dances, clever lines, and beautiful melodies, supported by distinctive stage settings and outstanding lighting effects made the operetta, 'tThe Golden Trail, a great success. Miss Dorothy Dale, assisted by Miss Mary Hornaday, directed the operetta. Miss Helen Ford coached the speaking parts and Miss Rowena Beach taught all the dances. The success of the operetta was due in a great measure to the splendid cooperation of all the departments of the school. The plot of the operetta centers around a stolen consignment of gold dust and the coveted Alvarado family jewels. Don Carlos Alvarado and daughter, Barbarita, and their party stop at an Inn on their way to Bar- barita's birthday celebration. Smiling Charlie, pursued by bandits, brings in his consignment of gold. He and Barbarita fall in love with each other under a romantic California moon. The bandits capture the Mexican dancer, Carmela, but she escapes. Smiling Charlie and the band of emi- grants capture the bandits and recover the gold and jewels. The wedding dance of Barbarita and Cha1'les is held in a joyful celebration at the Inn. Page 91 I
