MS Football Succeeds More than ninety boys participated in Middle School football, competing on one of three teams -the A team, the B team, and the sixth grade team. All three teams took on the formidable task of learning a new offense and a new defense, and all three were successful. Under the guidance of Bob Gleeson and Jerry Reese, the sixth graders, most of whom were new to the gridiron, posted a 4-6 season, competing primarily against YMCA sponsored teams that had played together for two or three years. Outstand- ing in the line were Walton Lawrence, John Beadles, Blake Hawthorne, Chris Eades, and Michael Dike. Outstanding in the backfield were Matt Burke, Ben Clark, Garrett Sanderson, and the Poland twins, Andy and Pitch. The B team, led by Joe Murph and Terry O'Brien, improved markedly with each contest, compiling a very respectable 5-2-1 record. Outstanding linemen included Brad Lamensdorf, Eric Arnette, Jim McCoy, Scott Wysong, and Daniel Hines. Turning in ex- the backfield Fraley, Pete ceptional performances in were Greg Kimmel, Jeff Chambers, Steve Burke, and Steve Buffington. The A team posted an 8-2 record, with particularly impressive victories over All- Saint's, Aledo, Fort Worth Christian, and All- Saint's again. The only defeats came at the hands of an undefeated Greenhill team and perennially strong arch-rival St. Mark's. The offense, averaging 27 points per game, was led by Chris Clark, Rick Hopkins, Kirk Fisher, and Tony Hodnett in the backfield, by linemen Bill Arnold, Tim Foster, Chuck Brown, Brad Greenman, Tim Koeppe, and Bill Steele, and by ends Sean Brennan, John Smith, and Don Pollock. The defense, allowing less than 10 points per game, was led by linemen Mark Jones, Bill and George Steele, Pollock, Greenman, Smith, Tad Ward, Wade Costello, Eric Tan- dy, Trey Gibbs, Jeff Simon, by linebackers Arnold, Foster, Koeppe, and Rob Greve, and by defensive backs Clark, Hopkins, Hodnett, Fisher, George Bynum, John Rutherford, and Scott Sankary.
