THE 1956 Uighl Tower dnddfwoi' Allen County Public Library Ft. Wayne, Indiana The runner pressed forward, Every muscle strained in action, With every motion striving onward, His eye fixed on the black cinder track That lay narrow and straight before him. As he ran, he remembered How he had first come upon the lonely track And had wondered where it led. He had even tried to trace the cinder trail To find its source, But because of the white sun's burning heat, He soon became wearied, and stumbling off the track, Slumped by the way to rest. Suddenly he heard a voice . . . and looking up, He saw a Stranger standing on the track, Who spoke his name and coming to his side, Began to tell him of the race for which the trail stood- What it was and where it led- And of His power to change into able runners Those who sought in vain to run the race. As he looked and listened, he believed . . . And suddenly his black cloak became a sprinter's suit And in his wearied body surged a second wind Of strength. He turned again to run, X i This time with icy, fl ,lf So his race had begun, And though his faith and strength were often tested X By obstacles along the way, X, ' He always found his second wind sufficient I ,je . . . Pressing toward the mark For the prize , Of the high calling of God ff- ln Christ Jesus. Sham Professor Oliver Steiner lived a secret - the secret of a happy life. He was much loved as a man and highly respected as a musician, his sincere smile, understanding eyes, and skillful hands will be remembered by us all. Although Professor Steiner's death in the spring of 1955 was a great loss to the college, his example of a happy, Christ-centered life is ever before us. In memoriam, we dedicate this 1956 Light Tower to Professor Oliver Steiner. r - ,, Y 1 . . XZ? ' 3 . x ' 'fit '. 5'-' ,- var 1 .- Y 'Sf .. f . .. Bethany Hall opens its doors wide and welcomes everyone with a special warmth and vigor. That vigor is maintained on a steady level by the typewriter's dutiful clicking, and the eliicient bustle of oFFice personnel. However, dignified elli- ciency does not always prevail. Vivacious talk and merry laughter indicate that Bethany is also a women's dormitory. The busy college bookstore, student mail boxes and class- rooms further the ceaseless activity which is an indispensable part of our campus life. L Where are you going tonight, tonight .... Q Emerson The only way to have a friend is to be one. au M ' Founders Memorial is a building full of sounds-sounds of all sizes, quali- ties, and pitches. Early in the morning one can hear the bustling of students as they go to breakfast in the dining hall where they wake up to a rattle of silverware, the clatter of dishes being washed, and the clanging of pots and pans in the kitchen. Throughout the rest of the day Founders hallways buzz with students going to classes, to chapel, to the practice rooms, and to the afternoon gym sessions. After dinner in the evening, music students take over. Fortunately, prac- tice rooms are sound-proofed but stray noise leaks into the hallways, pianos, organs, sopranos, flutes, trumpets, baritones, and record players all contribute to musical chaos. At nine o'clock students one by one begin leaving, until by twenty to ten only an occasional giggle echoes from the snack bar. Then silence -what a change! Art- Q 91. 44 g- 'FM :L 'qfua A . With the bell at the end of study hours comes a scuffle and rustle as books are put away and everyone relaxes - that is unless term papers or collateral work are due. Often it there are no deadlines the following day, little discussion groups meetp subiects include, of course, men. In the past halt-century the building has been a silent listener to varied discussions. Subjects range from theology to world affairs, from daily duties to future service. After two years of being explored and tested, Leightner Hall is settling down to the normal life ofa women's dormitory. Formerly a private home, the building was purchased by the college in the summer of 1954 and that fall a bevy of active co-eds moved in, second and third floors became dormitory rooms and the first floor lent itself for an attractive apartment and faculty lounge. On the corner of Indiana and Rudisill opposite Founders Memorial, Leightner would hardly be recognized as a part of the campus because of an exclusive, mansion-like appearance, but inside, a cheerful, warm atmos- phere convinces everyone that Leightner Hall very definitely belongs to Fort Wayne Bible College. sr E7 f5,,5,l.? , H ll They never sought in vain that sought the Lord oright. During their three-day visit on the college campus, they attend special meetings and participate in a wide variety of recreational programs, enioying fellowship with other Christian high school and college students. As visitors begin pouring in on Friday, furniture in dormitory rooms is stacked in corners, mattresses and suitcases occupy the floor. Sheets, pillows and cots even invade classrooms when dorms begin to bulge. Following the Friday night opening service, Saturday's activities include several informal meetings, all types of recreation, and a weiner roast and bonfire sing in the late afternoon. Sunday's two meetings are more formal and Youth Conference closes with a missionary service in the afternoon. The hundred-voice chorus was made up of students and alumni while orchestra per- sonnel included members of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra and music students of the college. The entire Messiah produc- tion was under the direction of Professor Lansing W. Throughout the fall and winter months choir members practice and rehearse in preparation for an extensive two-week spring tour. The choir constantly experiences the ioy of the Lord as they present concerts in churches, Youth for Christ gatherings, and specially-arranged high school meetings. An informal session, diverting from the regular program, affords the audience a glimpse into college life while at the same time giving choir members opportunity to witness in testimonies and choruses. Upon return to campus, choir members' overflowing blessings result in a contagious spiritual uplift for the faculty and student body who had faithfully upheld the choir in prayer. This year, under direction of Miss Betty Stanley, the choir gave concerts in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland during a seventeen-day tour. The instructor stopped the company, And as the runners wondered what it meant, Their Friend appeared again, and spake to each one, Pointing to the path each was to take.
