In years past a faithful attendant at chapel, Mother Ram- seyer has been unable to be with us the greater part of this year because of illness. However, she is able to enjoy the services through an inter-com system from the chapel to her home across the boulevard. With over 86.000,000 radio sets in the United States alone, Christian broadcasters can reach more people in one day than our Lord reached in three years of earthly ministry. Concerning the future of radio as it relates to the college, Dick Gerig, director of radio, states, The Lord willing, we shall use every opportunity that is ours in radio to extend the Christian message and to promote the ministry of the college . . . through effectively prepared programs with as wide a coverage as possible. Dr. S. A. Witmer Dean E. T. Ncuenschwander at Sunrise Chapel June Swaback MENS ENSEMBLE Dave van Gorkom Sunrise Chapel, the primary radio outlet for the college, is a morning devotional program broadcast over two radio stations. Listeners each morning are greeted with the friendly words of Announcer Bill Pannell. The program features the hymns of the Chapel Singers, directed by Gerald Gerig, together with soloists, trios, and quartets. The melodic accompaniments of June Swaback at the organ. Kathleen Gerig at the piano, and Paul van Gorkom at the vibraharp. provide smooth background for the program. In the control room. Dave van Gorkom engi- neers the broadcast, along with Mr. Gerig. who produces the program. The meditations of Dr. Witmer form an important part of each program and bring comfort and blessing to listeners over a wide area. Paul van Gorkom Kathleen Gerig puee forlY-nine To save a child is to save a life With this conviction on their hearts, the teachers of the many child evangelism classes go to their respective groups sowing the seed of the Gospel in the hearts of America ' s precious children Children ' s work is a vital and integral part of the college curriculum and is designed to provide for the student-teacher a practical outlet for his training, as well as an opportunity to reach youngsters with the Gospel. A Representative Group of Student Pastors Harry Huffman in Action pane i ' lity SuHataif, School eaclien i. To alleviate the existing crisis in the rural areas of our country, some of our men have taken on responsibilities of pastoring a church on the vvfeek-ends. To assist in providing a full-orbed program of extra- curricular activities designed to develop the physical, mental, social and spiritual life of the students, and to inspire loyalty to the school and to the principles for which it stands vi ere some of the responsibilities of the group this year. Elected in May, 1950, Wes Gerig proved to be an earnest and capable leader. He received ample support from Vice- President Ralph Ogden and the representatives from the vari- ous dormitories. ,, I . ,..„,........, ,.. ,j. •i «: I i I ; .. . : page fifty-two First Semester Officers Second Semester Officers It is the function of the Mission Band to keep Foreign Missions before the student body. This is accomplished through special Friday evening services which feature returned missionaries from around the globe. Perhaps the greatest ministry of the Band, however, is that of intercessory prayer. Daily at the five o ' clock prayer meetings, specific prayer requests are recognized and lifted in prayer to the Throne of Grace The Mission Band is supporting two missionaries both by prayer and finances. They are Mr. Joseph Shisler, Sierra Leone, Africa; and Miss Flor- ence Cavender, Colombia. South America May the Lord continue to bless this organization and lead it on to greater accomplishments. Seeing first-hand the critical dental needs of the missionaries, he began to pray that God would send someone to minister to these needs. No one was forthcoming, and the owner of the large chicken hatchery in Lincoln, Nb- braska. felt the urge to go himself. He paid his own expenses and for months he labored in Africa caring for the teeth of the missionaries. To extend this ministry, Dr. Lewis is train- ing missionaries and candidates for this work. Organizing his school at Fort Wayne this year, Mr. Lewis has trained seven of the Lord ' s servants for this much-needed work. Their presence on the campus has been an inspira- tion to all, and their work has helped many students in a tangible way. Because most hheral arts colleges and universities have become secular, a vacuum has been created in the field of higher education. To meet the need for colleges that stress spiritual values and which are loyal to the Christian faith, the Bible College has come into being. Education that strengthens faith and equips for service is vitally needed in this period of crisis. Fort Wayne Bible College invites friends, parents, and alumni to share in the responsibility of providing this kind of education for Christian ' Outh. By making a yearly contribu- tion of ten dollars or more, you may become a member of the Patrons ' Council — a growing fellows hip of Christian friends who arc backing t!ie school with their gifts and prayers.
