Beta Club Awards Scloolcmlvgp Promoting scholar- ship, leadership, and good citizenship were the aim of the Beta Club, and an impres- sive list of projects proved that the mem- bers of this national honor society worked toward these goals. Beta sponsored the election of Frey and Freyja each month, directed the Christ- mas door-decorating contest and the con- test and breakfast for the Ten Most Spirited Vikings, collected a scholarship fund, published the six weeks Honor Roll, and placed a Christ- mas tree in the main office. Tokens of ap- preciation to teachers and the school's sec- retaries were also provided as Well as painting posters for pep rallies, construct- ing a float for the Homecoming Parade, and posting news on the school bulletin board. Initiates were treated to a day dressed as a famous character- anyone from Scarlett O'Hara to Abraham Lincoln. Other impro- tant events were the state convention, Beta Banquet, and in- stallation of new members, concluding with the presentation of cords and tassels. 84!Beta Who me? .. The Society has raised funds for the green- house for several years, as well as for additional equipment needed by the Science department. Ms. IoAnn Balkom was sponsor of the club. She advised the members as they sought to promote in- terest and enthusiasm in the many branches of Science. Teresa Haas discusses the condi- tion of a plant with Rick Hord. A prize-winner, Science Honor's float of Viking Valhalla tied for first place in the club's division. Rocky the Boa explains a few facts of Serpentology to Bud Valade. Science Honor Society!83
