Making M mic, M viking Song Musical excellence was more than a phrase in Vikingland. The superiority of the performing choral groups of Fort Wal- ton Beach High School was unparal- leled in the region. The Voices of Val- halla, Valkyries and Concert Chorus held a series of concerts at the school. Each was a full-flavored musi- cal affair, showing the versatility of tal- ent among the organi- zations. The high opinion of local resi- dents of the groups was shared by judges at contests, as all the groups brought the highest ratings. Members of Concert Chorus as- semble to practice for district contest. At a winter concert, the director of all choral groups, Mr. Don Hicks, leads the girls in song. Neither rain nor fog keeps Val- halla from rehearsing a song and dance number for contest. The Voices of Valhalla serenade Queen Tricia Stevens at the Homecoming Pep Rally. Swing or String The superior music programs at Fort Walton Beach High School were ex- emplified by ad- vanced organizations such as the Orchestra and Stage and Lab Bands. Mr. William Creek- more once again di- rected a much ad- mired Orchestra. The only stringed group in the school prac- ticed daily in order to maintain a high mag- nitude of excellence. Also rehearsing ev- eryday, the Stage and Lab Bands attained skill in musicianship which earned fine ratings at contest. The Stage Band's per- formances at the Of- ficer's Club were rec- ognized as a highlight of many evenings. Di- rector of both bands was Mr. Ernest Hebson. Mr. Hobson directs the Stage Band at an appearance. It takes practice to get it right. The Stage Band lets good sound flv Music!71
