22 f ..,. 3 V 5 J V ., H De eme: Deciding Factor The Viking offense was late in getting started and the defense was called on to provide the impetus for second time in as many weeks. In the first half the only score came when an Escambia defender raced 21 yards for a touchdown after picking up a Viking fumble. In the third quarter Alan Win- slette recovered a fumble and 8 plays later Churillo took a Bobby Mikel pitchout and went 5 yards to score. The PAT failed and the score was momentarily tied at 6-6. With 2:17 left in the third quarter, lack Smith made the play that turned the game around by blocking an Escambia punt and running it into the end zone from 15 yards away. Dur- ham converted the PAT and the Vikings moved ahead to stay 13-6. Three plays after the ensueing kickoff, Kim Duncan inter- cepted an Escambia pass and three plays later he went 18 yards for the Vikings' 19th point. Dane McDaniel then hit Duncan for a two point con- version and a 21-6 lead. Six seconds later the Vikings added 2 more points when an Escambia player downed the kick-off in the end zone for a safety. In the fourth quarter the Vi- king offense put together its best and longest drive of the night going 40 yards with Randy Timm climaxing the drive by driving in from 2 yards out. McDaniel hit Mikel for the 2 point conversion and a final 31-13 win. Rutherford!127

Of?-67256, De eme, Fbing Colm The Fort Walton Beach Vi- kings opened the 1973 football season with a 34-0 victory over the Rutherford Rams. It was the Vikings' third straight opening win and all three have been shutouts. After a listless first quarter, the Viking offense began to find itself and with 8 minutes remaining, Bobby Mikel took a Ron Enclade pass and splashed his way 33 yards for the score. Enclade added the PAT making the score 7-0. Mike Churillo got the first third quarter score by sprint- ing 24 yards and Enclade added the PAT. After the Vi- king defense gave the Vikings another of four turnovers for the night, on a fumble recov- ery by Warren Gould, Ron En- clade climaxed a 5 play drive by skirting his left side for the 20th point. Enclade then missed his only PAT of the game. ln the fourth quarter, a Kim Duncan interception gave the Viking offense another oppor- tunity and again the offense retaliated as Churillo ran 4 yards for a TD and Enclade converted for a 27-0 margin. After the defense forced an- other Ram turnover at the Ram 40, it took the offense only 4 plays before Enclade took a handoff from McDaniel and went left tackle for the fi- nal TD of the game. He then added the PAT, making the fi- nal score 34-0. 126!Rutherford Tony D t1,hut2,hut3.., block V uarterback Ronnie Enclade runs for V dage. y Durham collects an easy point Escambia defender attempts to ' g kick. urham turns on the spec Duncan escapes an Escamb defend

Praying Challis Poifm The Vikings avenged a bitter 1972 defeat at the hands of Bay High School by blanking the Tornadoes 14-0 on a damp muggy night in Fort Walton Beach. The hard-hitting Viking de- fense held the Tornadoes to a total of 50 yards offensively and only 4 first downs as Bay's offense never made a se- rious scoring bid. When the Vikings found their running game stymied, they went to the pass for two touchdowns that provided the Vikings with their winning margin. Quarterback Bobby Mikel hit split end Ron En- clade for 38 yards and a TD in the second quarter and then hit tight end Alan Winslette from 5 yards out in the fourth quarter for the final TD. Ron Enclade successfully con- verted both points after touchdowns. The game was a gruesome de- fensive battle with the kicking game and a big play offense turning the struggle into a hard earned victory for the Vikings. No way baby, this one's mine! The Viking defense pulls in for the tackle. 128!Bay
