Despite a late season letdown, the team and individual statistics were out- standing. For example, in regular season competition 19 wrestlers won over half of their matches, a total of 20 wrestlers earned letters, and a total of 94 wins were by pin. All of this was accommplished with only four seniors on the varsity so hopes are high for next year as there will be 14 returning lettermen, all with considerable varsity experience. Fort Vancouver placed fourth in the district tourna- ment and sent Sutherland, Shawcross, Kepfer, Abbott, Yunker, Stroobandt, Crowe, and Herbster on to regional. There the competition eliminated all but Steve Crowe who placed second and qualified for state. At state, Steve made it all the way to the finals where he wrestled his opponent to a tie after regulation time was up. In overtime, Steve was defeated and so became second in State, ,sm ROW 1: Mike Knopp, Steve Johnson, Kelly Sutherland, Wayne Kemper, Darrell Abbott, Dan Hansen, Mike Ellison, Chuck Sonnenburg, Byron Shawcross, Coach Larry Abla.
