THE GRIDIRO A stunning victory of 28 to 12 over the Camas Paper- makers rewarded the newly formed Trapper team for all their hard work and weeks of training. In the first game of the season, the four touchdowns came in the second and third quarters, when Fort Vancouver showed a superi- ority in both land and air fighting. The Trappers, with a victory under their belts, scalped the Chieftains in a 27 to O wipe-out game. The fireworks were touched off when Speedster Borge, on the opening kick-off, dashed an untouched 79 yards for the first goal. The Lumberjacks dominated Fort Vancouver in the first three quarters of the game with a 20 to 7 lead. How- ever, the determined Trappers came back in the fourth quarter with new energy and spirit, and gained 13 points to tie up the game. With less than a minute to play, the tieing touchdown came when quarterback Jack Francis found John Cortese alone in the end zone, and threw him a 23 yard pass to sew up the game. The Trappers trapped the Tigers in a 15 to 6 victory. 112 runs accounted for most of the touchdowns. Facing almost every type of adversity, Fort Vancouver won a 7-6 decision against Hoquiam. The key play of the evening came when Bain intercepted a pass a yard or two before the intended receiver, and ran a clear five yards for the goal. ln their first defeat of the season, by Aberdeen, the Trappers were plagued by fumbles and blocked punts. At the end of the first half, things looked bleak for Fort, but in the middle of the third quarter the Trappers came back with a 61 yard scoring drive, and another touchdown in the last quarter. The Trappers played a rough game against the Bears in a great attempt to upset a strong rival. ln the opening kick-off, Fort racked-up 51 yards in four plays, and made 18 hard earned points in the second and third quarters, But Olympia, in the fourth quarter despite a valiant attempt by Fort to block them, gained 7 more points to take a 21 to 13 win.
