SEASON'S RECORD FOOTBALL Competing in the newly organized SWW League, the l956 Trapper Football Team compiled an admirable record with seven wins and three losses. Thirty players and three managers earned a varsity letter during their triumphant season. Fort Vancouver finished second place in the SWW League and in nineteenth place in the All-State Press Polling. Displaying an exceptionally heavy line and a very fast backfield, the Trappers won the annual Homecoming game against Longview 25-l9. Breaks in the Camas-Fort Vancouver game led to all three touchdowns as the Trappers defeated the Papermakers l3-6. Getting practice for next year, the Juniors rallied over Woodrow Wilson by downing the Portlanders 44-6. Named by the coaches to the local All-Conference first team were: Gordon Upkes, Chuck Chronis, Gary Newman, and Danny Russell. Mike Collins was on the second team. Gordon Upkes received a higher honor by being singled out for the All-State team with Chuck Chronis an alter- nate. Danny Russell was chosen the Outstanding Player, Gary Newman team captain, and Chuck Chronis inspirational player. sour:-lwesr LEAGUE FOOTBALL :.V.H.S.. . . . . 6 Gresham ..... 29 STANDINGS F.V.H.S. ...... l3 Battleground . . 6 F.V.H.S. ...... 25 Longview .....
