7 WiIdkitten Fini papef Season With 12-8 Record The Fort Valley State College Wildkittens f'mished their regular season with a I2-8 win-loss record. Their conference record was 4-l. This outstanding performance has led them to higher plains already. The Kittens, under the leadership of Coach Jessie Brown, placed second f2ndJ in the GAIAW Toumament in Valdosta, Georgia on Febniary 23 H 25. This came as a result of defeating the two toughest teams in the state. Savannah State, who defeated the Kittens twice during the regular season, fell prey to the Kittens on the first night of the three-day toumament. That score was 77-73. Then on the second night, the Ramettes of Albany fell to the mighty Kittens of Fort Valley by the score of 79-78. The Kittens split the season encounters with Albany winning at home and losing in Albany. The ferocious Kittens were stopped one QI! short dt' the championship by the powerful team from Valdosta State, Valdosta. That score was I I0-76 As a result of the second place position of the Kittens, they will, along with first place Valdosta, compete in the South Region III of the AIAW that wi he phyed on Qs GBX! of Phi! Texas The team vytll leave the Valley on Thursday for that tourna- menl The 'Kitten threat came to a close in the final seconds of the Ole Miss game when a Fort Valley player was called for traveling. thus turning the ball over to Ole Miss wttr less than a minute to play They were unable to score as the 'Kittens regained po- session ofthe ball With only 6 seconds on the clock, Wildkttten star Barbara Green put in what 'was thought to be the clencher. however, she was called for walking and Ole Mtss secured the victory With the final buzzer, the tournament went as follows Valdosta State, lst place. Ole Miss, 2nd place, Delta State. 3rd place and Fort Valley State, ttthplace 'Ma State University in Tallahassee, Florida from Thursday, March 9th through Saturday, March llth. The AIAW is a four state event including schools from Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and Georgia. Valdosta State and Fort Valley State will represent Georgia. The toumament schedule for Thursday is as follows: FVSC Wildltittens vs. University of South Florida at l:00 p.m.: Delta State vs. University of Alabama at 3:00 p.m.: sxx TTE48, 4 Talladega vs. Mississippi at 7:00 p.m.g and Valdosta State vs. Florida State at 9:00 p.m. The entire FVSC community is behind the Fort Valley team and are looking for great things from them during this tournament and the fonhcoming season.
