EX LIBRIS FO REWORD Hundreds of years ago, when our country, as we now know it, was but a dream in an imaginative mariner's mind, the locality we call Fort Stockton was inhabited by the American Indian, to whom it was known as Comanche Springs. Thus he forever associated his tribal name with the miraculous springs that flow unceasingly, enriching the land and making it something other than barren desert. Through the years, up until our own time, the source of this sparkling water has never been drained dry, but has faithfully provided us with refreshment and vitality. It is our wish that the flow of memories that spring from within the contents of this book shall thus enrich your life and prove a never-ending source of refreshment and delight through the years to come. THE STAFF ORDER OF BOOK School Administration Classes Athletics Organizations Favorites m We, the Seniors of 1947, dedicate the 1947 PANTHER to James G. Huckaby as the person who has meant the most to us throughout our high school years. If in some way we have acquired any of his high principles and strength of characte.r, we leave this school better qualified to face life's problems. His hatred of dishonesty and laziness and his admiration for someone who can take it are only a few of the characteristics which have had so great an influence over our high school life. Firm and able to handle even the toughest, he's always ready to help and give another chance to someone who asks with the right spirit . Friend as well as professor, his teaching has not been confined to books. Mr. Cecil Casebier As George Eliot says in SILAS MARNER, There's debts we can t pay like money debts. Realizing this, we wish to express our appreciation for the invaluable ideas and assistance of Mrs. Thomas, our sponsor, the talent of Mr. Casebier in designing our cover, and the patience and untiring efforts of Mr. and Mrs. Lenhart in taking the pictures.
