Hmm Sxnce ex ery other semor class of ye Old St Lucie Hlghe Skule that we have read heard or talked about has called thenr history A History we shall be dxfferent and call ours Backward Glances September 15 1940 was the memorable date Why7 Because on that day the Semor Class of 44 enrolled as Freshmen and we started on our unsteady career as members of Sr H1 Skule We chose Mrs A B Connor to gunde our enthusrasm nnto constructxve channels and started out For offxcers we elected Frxtz Scharfschwerdt Presxdent Bermce Melton Vnce Presndent Mable Draw dy Treasurer and Petxe Smith Secretary Student Councrl Alan Helseth and Clnfford Taylor We began our dutnes as students but decxded not to le work make Jack a dull boy by throwmg partnes now and then The scenes of these blowouts were many and varned and mcluded the spnllway 10 mile the beach Ma Rend s back yard and Taylor s Daxry We graced Stunt Nlte wxth a httle patrnotlc number fwe forget the namej and recenved second place for our effort to the great surprnse of everyone but the judges The JUDIOI' Semor Banquet was held and was well attended by the lowly Frosh Qthat was usj No one got hurt ln the battle so we went merrrly on our way The fmal exams came upon us and about half of us emerged full fledged sophomores Summer goes by On September 17th we reassembled at Ye Olde H1 Skule to regnster Many famxlnar faces were seen and some not so famahar fsun burn ye knowj We elected Mrs Burd as our gundmg lrght Pat Hardwnck President Frrtz Scharfschwerdt Treasurer and Mable Drawdy Secretary Student Coun crl Helseth and Smxth QPet1ej All prehmmarnes settled we started out on our most successful year Due to our stupendous dances and grgantxc candy sales we were to go down m school hxstory as the rxchest of all sophomore classes On December 13th we rocked Stunt Nxte wrth laughter at our Columbus Dnscovers Amernca and we won second place Due to our success as money makers we were able to honor the Semors wxth one of the best of Sophomore Semor pncmcs Aprnl 10 was the date It could not have been better The day dawned clear warm and sunny wxth a brxght blue sky and a balmy southerly breeze The pxcmc was at the beach Qof coursej and everyone ate swam and sunburned to thenr hearts content All rn all nt was a day we wnll long remember QEspec1ally those who went wlth Glen Snow on that wnld rude to White Cnty 10 mxle and back J Days came and almost before we knew xt we emerged as jumors wlth nothmg to do but loaf' On September 16th we came back to a Fort Pxerce H1 that was greatlv changed The war had taken nts due toll and many famnlnar faces were mxssmg However we buckled down to make the best of thmgs and elected officers Sponsor Mrs Burd Presxdent Alan Helseth Vnce President Denny Hamble ton Secretary jackxe Meyer Treasurer Jack Odom Student Councnl Helseth and Calhoon One of the war casualtnes was the 42 edmon of the Golden Eagles QEveryone remembers the 42 Eagles nuff sed'j We sponsored sev eral successful dances and on Dec ll presented Stunt Nate Not only was xt considered one of the best Stunt Nxtes we also had the best Stunt After an nouncxng that our stunt QI-Ier fnrst datej had been gwen fnrst place we gave fnrst prnze to the runner up and second prlze to thnrd place l 0 ' ' li 1 !, Y 3 Y I ' Q! ,Y , . ,!
