Because of all this and much more, we would like to say, uthanksf' Mr. and Mrs. Welle with Janna and Darrin. f5 12 N-1 X J Linden Welle was the 1977 High School teacher of the year nominee Mom, how do you get this thing Linden and Marcene Wolf were mar off the ground? ried on August 25th, 1962. 21 F jg,:Zi5f' N2k l wa if if on GFX X 'X I ij mi? f.f - 7 '- For the class of 1980, the year began withthe traditional orientation. Forget- ting the saying for the day, dropping a J unior's books on slave day, or collapsing at the feet of a Senior as the one hun- dredth push-up was finished on exercise day, were among many of the pitfalls of the Sophs' first week. But, many of the hard feelings were mended at the wel- come dance held in honor of the Sophs a week later. Many of the Sophomores quickly realized their financial position, as they tried to scrape up enough money to purchase a class ring, which might or might not have left them deeply in debt. It didn't take longg however, for the Sophs to settle down into the routine of good ole FMHS. 141 SOPHOMORES l lllillli L to R: Pres., Darren Eurichg V-Pres., Ernie Rodarteg Sec-Treas, Deb Beau- prez And the sign said . . . The annual magazine sales campaign start- ed the Junior Class well on their way toward funding the Junior-Senior prom which is the class's major effort of each year. This year's top seller was Janine Stancil followed by Scott Epstein, Steve Hall and Sherri Kroskob. Ran- dy Price won the only five dollar drawing. Had Rebecca Young sold five subscriptions, she would have won fifty dollars. The FBLA carnival, the bonfire, and the snake dance were held. The first play ran through a scene once with no mishaps, then repeated it with doors falling over, chairs break- ing, and the leading man being knocked out. Brenda Eyestone, President of Thes- pians, then read Thus I Refute Beel- zey as the serious portion of the even- ing's performance. The final play was a melodrama about a villian who wanted to have the land owned by a sweet young girl to expand his broccoli business. This play has a surprise ending when the heroine chose money over love. People behind the scenes that de- serve credit are Tom Mayberry, Kelly Stone, Tammie Reeves, and Kim Por- ter. For some it means school's over. For some it means graduation into higher learning. For some it means marriage or a job. This year's seniors are sad to realize that this is the last time they might see friends they've had throughout High School, but they know they'll make new ones in the years to come. It is hard to leave the security of our homes and our friendsg it is scary to go into unknown jobs and fields, but somehow we'll make it - somehow everyone does. De agony of de-feet, is the saying known by all Cross Country runners, es- pecially by John Rivera, the only return- ing letterman from last year, and by Brenda Billiard, a senior who has been the only girl on the team for three years. Although the course was changed this year from a mere two miles to a tedious, tormenting three miles, the runners gave it their best. The team didn't have a win- ning season, but Coach Harden said that each runner improved their individual performance which is what they set out to do. Al... CROSS COUNTRY IT'S BEEN A LO G TIME COMING When Coach Stern arrived on the scene three years ago, he said it would take three years to build a winning team. This year, the dream became a reality with the tre- mendous record of 8-2-1 and the Division II championship. During the season, the Mus- tang defense ranked number one in the state allowing only 36 points in 9 games. The team itself appeared in the polls many weeks ranked anywhere from 6 to l0. It was the best football season Ft. Morgan has had in the last quarter of a century and the student body and townspeople showed their support by outnumbering the hosts at most of the away games. The cagers did not have a winning season, but more important was the fact that they improved their strategy and experience with each game played. They showed that a physically overmatched and basically inexperienced team could provide tough competition. A good pressure defense and the KISS fKeep it simple, stupidj of- fense usually kept the team statis- tically equal to other teams. An excess of turnovers and lapses in rebounding hurt the Mustangs most and cost them to lose sever- al games by a small margin. The groups of Concert Choir, Singers, and Girls Ensemble per- formed at a variety of places, concerts, Decemberfest, Lions Club, and the Country Club-just to name a few. For the first time, the Singers had their own choreographer, Tammie Reeves, who proved to be quite talented. More talent was found when Karyn Reichert was accepted into the 1978 All- State Choir held in January. -The Mixed Choir membership changed 60 to 7076 for the 2nd semester, giving a chance to all those having a desire to sing. Even without an all-school musical, the vocal department had a very good year. Singers Girls Ensem C VOCAL KWERT HJ Q Forty-six string players and twenty-four wind players combined under the direction of Larry Overton to produce the sweet sounds of the FMHS Orchestra fthe music became even sweeter when a new harp was added to the instrumentationj. The group played at various concerts and contests, the first being the annual winter concert, at which the stage was shared with the Bear Creek Orchestra from Denver. Five members of the Orchestra were selected to play in the 1978 All- State Orchestra in February. They were: Jay Johnson and Alan Henson on Bass, Kim Messenger and Chris Bidlingmaier on Violin, and Cathy Paynter on Viola. The Orchestra never fails to bring out the many talented and gifted people of our school. It has been another extremely successful year for the Orchestra. The 21 members met on a voluntary basis and received no credit and no grade for their work. They performed several concerts for the public and have earned superior contest ratings for the past five years. Showband was a specially selected group of 25 students who had a sincere interest in Dixieland, swing, rock, and jazz music. During the year they performed many concerts, for dances, school as- semblies, service clubs, and the general public. The style of music played and the size and qual- ity of the group made Showband enjoyable to all those involved.
