Text from Pages 1 - 184 of the 1984 volume:

DEDICATION lie is usually a quiet man. In class he teaches with record- ings and worksheet. Kut w'hen he is fired up; there is no stop- ping him. That's the way he has been all of his life. There was no stopping old forty-six in high school foot- ball. There was no stopping him when he ran for city commis- sioner. There was no stopping him from getting that office cither. When he was a coach here at Fort Meade High School, he and the other coaches led our football teams to state. WTitli that kind of determination he can do anything. With any luck, his son will be like him, a leader. He has always brought out the best in himself and in others. Ami so, it is with great honor, love, and respect that we dedicate the 1984 FOMEH ISO to Mr. Oarrctt t'agiano. 2 3 In Life We Must Make Two Kinds Of Decisions. On the good ship . . . Goes To The Movies I'll be there in a minute! Peter Pan look alike??? The winning door, Mrs. Davis The week of November 14-18 was the 1983 Homecoming week at Fort Meade High School. Homecoming week was filled with activities that raised the spirit of the teachers and students. Monday was shorts day and All star anything goes. The Senior class took first place, the Junior class placed second, and the freshman class placed third. Tuesday was movies day. Wednesday was Preppie day. Thursday was Fifties day. And Friday was Black and Gold day. With a lot of support from the teachers and the students, the Miners were victorious over the Lemon-Bay Manta Rays. 33 That’s a fact Jack!!! Seniors Take First Place! Monday was the annual All Star Anything Goes” tournament. Each class participated in spirit-filled events such as the locomotion, the bunny hop, the jumprope. and the wheelbarrow. It was long and tough, but in the end. the Mighty Seniors were victorious. Second place went to the Juniors and third went to the Freshmen. Spirit was shown as well as a good time. VICTORY! And a one and a ... 34 I’ll be glad when this is over. Juniors Place First The theme of Homecoming this year was THE MOVIES.” Even though there have been a lot of great movies lately, the students at FMHS chose the best ones. The Juniors, who took first place, used “JAWS.” The Sophomores, who took second place, used “WAR GAMES. And the Seniors, who placed third, used “CONAN.” Each one of the floats managed to choose a movie that represent- ed our Homecoming appropriately. And our 1983 Homecoming was GREAT! !! In their Sophomore year, the Senior Class of '84 made the decision to change the new miner back to the old miner when ordering class rings. They felt that the old Miner was an important tradition to F.M.H.S. Also during their Sophomore year, they donated a rose garden for the school. The Seniors won second place on their float, and held a terrific Valentines Dance. In their Junior year, they had the opportunity to sell magazines for the Prom, which was a great success. Seniors won first place with the Homecoming float, and showed spirit all year long by winning the spirit stick at pep ralleys the entire year. And now, for the final year at F.M.H.S., Seniors placed first in the All-Star Anything Goes. They reached third place for Homecoming float, and again won the spirit stick for the whole year. ACROSS THE SKY FLASHED THH SCENES FROM HIS LIFE. FOR EACH SCENE. HE NOTICED TWO SET OF FOOTPRINTSTN THE SAND: ONE BELONGING TO HIM. THE OTHER TO TH LORD WHEN THE LAST SCENE OF HIS LIFE FLASHED BEFORE HTM, HE LOOKED BACK AT THE FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND. HE NOTICED THAT VIA NY TIMES ALONG THE PATH OF HIS LIFE THERE WAS ONLY ONE SET; OF FOOTPRINTS HE ALSO NOTICED THAT IT HAPPENED AT THE VERY LOWEST AND SADDEST TIMES OF HIS LIFE THIS REALLY BOTHERED HIM AND HE QUESTIONED THE LORD ABOUT IT 'LORD, YOU SAID THAT ONCE I DECIDED TO FOLLOW YOU. YOU !) WALK WITH ME ALL THE WAY. BUT I NOTICED THAT DURING THE MOST TROUBLESOME TIMES IN MY LIFE, THERE IS ONLY ONE SET OF FOOTPRINTS. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY WHEN 1 NEEDED YOU THE MOST YOU WOULD LEAVE ME.” t the! LORD REPLIED. “MY, SON. MY PRECIOUS CHILD. I YOU AND I | WOULD NEVER LEAVE YOU. DURING YOUR TIMES OF TRIAI ND SUFFERING, WHEN YOU SEE ONLY ONE SET OF FOOTPRINTS, IT W AS THEN THAT I CARRIED YOU AUTHOR. UNKNOWN Denard Thomas March 17, 1966-1978 A Wonderful «Journey: This year’s theme was “Footprints”, or a walk through the 1983-1984 year in Fort Meade High School. We have walked through homecoming, sports, and other very special times. W'c have made footprints with these pictures and the memories that belongs to them. We hope that this yearbook will remind you of all those special memories. It did us. There are several people that we need to thank, for without them, we couldn't have done it. First, the yearbook staff, which in their craziness helped us develop the best yearbook ever. Thank you Mr. Collins, for enduring all those daily interruptions with a smile. Thanks goes to the secretaries, who were patient on picture days, during ad sales and any other times. Thanks goes to Dave, our yearbook rep. who managed to keep us together. We also thank J.W., Jim. Mike, and Leigh, the Bryon Allen Photographers, who took any and every kind of picture. Thanks also goes to one yearbook member who went that extra mile. John Keller, the man who drew what he calls “Those Funky-Looking Feet! . Finally and sincerely, we'd like to thank that very special lady who gave us the choice to create this book of memories, Jackie Burch our advisor and our friend whom we love dearly. Thanks to everyone who helped in any way, and who gave us those great expressions on film. We will never forget this year, or you. Love Ya! 171 173 Footprints! HON BOUT MM MINERS
