Theme Seniors Jmiors Sophomores Freshmen Junior High Curriculum Highlights Sports Organizations Ads Closing This year's dedication goes to a man that we all know and love. He has given the students the want and desire to go forward, not to turn around and quit.lHe gives momentum to all occasions, when we found ourselves in trouble, we went to him for advice, and of course he had some to give which was the right answer.) A-'- Many people say love makes the world go round, well if that's true, this man is turning three-fourths of the world by himself. He gives love to his students and his job. Now there is someone new for him to give love to, a very special lady. She is the beginning of his new life, an f a 4 On her 200th birthday the United States of America has a lot of things to be proud of. America has had quite a history, from Columbus and the Indians to the astronauts landing on the moon. And even though America has suffered through many wars and hard times during her history, she is still here as great as ever. But times are changing and hopefully the best of everything is still ahead. New ideas are here and there are more ideas still unthought of, yet to come. So look up America. You’ve had a good 200 years, and you still have your future ahead of you. 5 Red, White and Blue All the Way Over the past 200 years many men have fought and died for their beliefs in the United States of America. We. the citizens of America, must continue this fight in order to better our country. Everyday when people recite their allegiance to this country, they pledge to the flag and to the republic it represents. People pledge to the ideal of liberty and justice for all. Citizens must strive to maintain this liberty that so many people have fought for. The American people must have the Spirit of '76 and must fight for the Red, White and Blue all the way. 7 8 Times are changing. The new United States of America is not at all like the old U.S. that the Pilgrims were used to. We no longer have to clear land or plow fields in order to survive. But surviving in this modern society is not easy either. New problems have arisen making this era more mixed up than any other. But this age also has more new inventions to help ease the load. There are even future ideas so each tomorrow will be better than the day before. Back in 1776 America moved by horse and buggy. Now, in 1976 people ride in cars and jets, and who knows how people will get around in 2076. The old U.S. of A. just ain't what she used to be many long years ago, but America is striving for a better and brighter future ahead. 9 10 Freedom is the basis of the American society. When our country was established years ago, the Pilgrims came to America looking for freedom. Americans have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Also, the freedom of the press, the freedom of religion, and the freedom of assembly and the right to protest against injustice. WL © £ © 3S5IN SON G BOOK. The three R’s, reading, riting, and rithmatic - That's what education used to be all about. School, back when America was young, was quite different from what it is today. Classes were held in a one room school house and all the children had the same teacher. Modern schools, unlike these old fashioned schools, are usually very large. Many schools are even air conditioned or carpeted. Teachers have also changed throughout history. Teachers are more specialized and better educated than they were years ago. They have more complicated electronic teaching aids with which to try to motivate the student. Teachers have had to change as time passed and ideas and lifestyles changed. No one can say which are the best teachers. 12 Who’s Got Heritage? I Love comes in all shapes and sizes. Brotherly love, loving your friends, loving food and loving one another. But the only everlasting love is God's love. God's love is very imponant. On June 6, 1944, during WW II, the allied forces invaded France at Normandy. God and His love helped these men win their battle. On June 6, 1976, the Senior class of Fon Meade High School will also be depending on God’s love to help them through their battle; the battle of life. A Look to the Future Heritage, freedoms, liberty. These are all essential parts of our country's past. America's past has been one of hard times and good times, but history has set a foundation for our world today. Our modern world, with history behind her, is one of advances, of changes, and of new technology. Now while we celebrate America's 200th Birthday, we rightfully remember the past, and we respect America for what she is today. Without knowing it, we are setting the foundation for our future. But what will our future be like? What lies ahead? What will America be like in the next 200 years? No one can predict the future, but everyone can work to build a bright tomorrow for the United States of America. Look to the future and dream . . . 16 CLASS OF 1976 As those who reached such high and honorable goals in 1776, we the bicentennial class of 1976 feel we have reached our goal of graduation with honor and true spirit of '76. As we leave behind this building where we have grown in knowledge and stature . . . the teachers who by giving a pan of themselves have become a pan of our lives . . . the many people who have worked to make each day a profitable learning experience . . . and the many close friends in undergraduate classes who have helped fill our years here with pleasure and excitement . . . We leave - not with regret but with an appreciation for all that our years at Fort Meade High School have meant. CLASS SONG FREE AS A BIRD If I leave here tomonow Would you still remember me For I must be traveling on now too many places I've got to see If I stay here with you now Things just couldn't be the same Cause I'm just as free as a bird now - And this bird you cannot chain. by Lynyrd Skynyrd 18 Seniors of Distinction Chris Ay cock Dwayne Aycock Larry Howell These fourteen students were chosen as the top seven boy and girl students from the Senior class. Experience Builds Good People in DCT DCT makes a move up. This year the DCT built a float in the Homecoming Parade which symbolized the Spirit of '76. Sending members to convention was a major crisis (which members were better qualified than the other members) but finally the problems were solved and everything turned out all right. The members of DCT learned the qualifications to being a better person from Experience. Sponsor - Papa Brown 126 Students consider subject. DCT L-R: V. Pres. L. Watson, Pari. B. Mitchell, Pres. S. This year has been very special to me, it is the 200th birthday of America; and also the 50th anniversary of the Fomehiso. 1 hope that each and every person will remember the true meaning that I have tried to compose in this book about the bicentennial. I will always have a deep feeling for this school and being a graduate of the Class of '76. I'd like to thank all of the many people who have helped in making this yearbook possible. The Fomehiso Staff: the business staff helped a great deal by selling annual ads, the editorial staff ran around getting vital information when I was busy. Mr. James I. Paige, the man whom I will always look up to for providing me with the willpower to get the annual finished on time. Mr. Dick Ashe, who even though busy with other schools, always took time out to get our pictures to us before the deadline. The businesses who bought ads and sponsored the Fomehiso, my deepest appreciation goes to all of you. To the teachers and student body I give a great many thanks, if not for your patience and help, I’d probably never have gotten the annual finished. Each year this woman is given many thanks but I don't really believe that there is any humanly possible way to thank her. Mrs. Jackie Burch always kept me busy, pushing me until the annual was completed. She has sacrificed many a holiday to spend with me laying out the annual. I really appreciate her as a sponsor but also as a friend. I know that I will carry all that I have learned this year with me in my future years. I wish the best of luck to next year's editor, Suzanne Gordon, and also hope that the '76 seniors will carry the meaning in this book with them in all their future years. u) tSuc v Cx£jR0 - VJYV 169 170 %%%%%% iimww IIIU Happy 200th America! The United States sure has had a good two hundred years. But it is only 200 years young. It has changed throughout its history from horse drawn buggies to Boeing 727's from one room school houses to million dollar complexes equippped with all the latest devices and our country is still changing, but now each and every person here at Fort Meade High School has the opportunity to help make these changes be the best things that ever happened to our country. The U. S. is celebrating her bicentennial. And Fort Meade, an official bicentennial town, will be celebrating along with the rest of the country. If everyone works together to improve our country one will truly be able to look towards the future with pride. Today the world has many problems but each and every one of us will have to find a way to laugh at the bad and bring on the good. In this way people show their own true views of what they think of hard times and how they get rid of them. So when the world is getting one down one should just laugh at it and think of the wonderful world it really is, and thank the God above that a person has what he does have and not any less. Celebrate this bicentennial with pride and just remember everyone has got what it takes to be a proud American. 175 176 sV .. A
