Fort Meade High School 1912-1967 For fifty-five years this building has symbolized wisdom, ambition, happiness, frustration, hope, and distress to the students of Fort Meade. Its halls have re- sounded with the footsteps of two generations, but soon they will be silent and lonely. The dreams of future students will be housed in a new building with modern facili- ties, and these halls, which now ring with the joy of the present, will ring only with the echoes of the past.

Howard L. Beynon, an individual who has tripled as a friend, servant, and administrator through thick and thin” for three years at Fort Meade High School. Howard Beynon was born on August 16,1919 in Youngstown, Ohio, where he attended high school. He later attended the University of Tampa where he received the Degree of Bachelor of Science, and George Peabody College in Nash- ville, Tennessee, where he earned the Master of Arts Degree. He is married to the former Glenna Hill of Tampa and they have three children: Howie, Debbie, and Joe. Father, golfer, fisherman, singer, actor, and athlete: you name it—Mr. Beynon has done it! He served his country for four years and ten days in the United States Army. He was a Deputy Sheriff in Hillsborough County and a policeman in Tampa. He was also an amateur boxer and fought several times in Youngstown, Ohio. This variety of professions and pastimes would surely help to account for his keen understanding and appreciation of all kinds of people. So, to this man of many faces,” whose spirit of enthusiasm makes everything he does his favorite thing,” the Annual Staff respectfully and lovingly dedicates this book. 4
