High School Office Mrs. Helen Russell is completing her sev- enth year as our high school secretary. Before coming to this job she was bookkeeper for Tate Phillips and secretary of the First Baptist Church Devoting all her time and energy to her work, she has become a familiar figure to Fort Meade students. Mrs. Betty Jackson, who attended Brogden High School in North Carolina, has been with us for two years. She not only enjoys secretarial work, but is a skilled musician as well. Library Mrs. Helen Parker is our librarian. She has a B. R.E. Degree from Boston University and has done additional work at Iowa State Teachers College, Florida Southern College, and Graduate Library School at Florida State University. She is sponsor of the Library Club, and her hobbies are Sewing and knitting. Mrs. Martha Gessner was our librarian aid until mid-February. One of her favorite pastimes is playing tennis with her husband Max, who is a teacher and coach. 29

Gib- son, Jr Mrs. Kitty Bell, whose favorite pastime is horticulture, has been a secretary for eighteen years. When asked about her work she replied, I have been a secretary for as long as I can remember. Mrs. Bell learned her skills at Tampa Business College. Area Office Mr. Joe Clanton was transferred to the Fort Meade Area Office from the County School Board. He attended Arkansas State College where he received his Bachelor Degree, then went on to the University of Mississippi where he received his Masters Degree, and for additional graduate work he at- tended the University of Florida. His reasons for choosing this profession were livelihood and ambitions to be a teacher. Mr. Clanton’s favorite pastimes are hunting and fishing. 28
