This Is Your Life Mr. Robert David Mitchell Presented with the Compliments of THE FIRST STATE BANK You were born in Alva in Lee County, far up the Ca- loosahatchee River on the edge of the Everglades. Your father was a Methodist minister and you had the advan- tage of several schools. Most of your high school years were spent in Hardee County, but you graduated from Umatilla High School in 1923. As a boy you were fond of radiosand hot rods. You succeeded in building a radio of your own. You matriculated at Florida Southern in 1923. You helped with your expenses by waiting tables and working at the Yacht Club. While at college you met Miss Edith Scally, who later became your wife. You spent one year in Chicago as inspector for Kelloggs Switchboard Company. You attend- ed classes at the University of Chicago while there. You returned to your native state in 1928 and be- gan your teaching career in Everglades City in die field of math and science. The next year you be- came principal of the Collier City School. Your next assignment brought you to Polk County as prin- cipal of Highlands City School. In 1937 you came to Fort Meade as principal. In 1942 you entered the U. S. Navy as Lt. J. G. and served in die field of communications. After your discharge you returned to the field of education and in 1950 you came back to Fort Meade where you have worked untiringly for the youth of our com- munity. And So . . . because of your rise from the isolated reaches of the Ever- glades to the pinnacle of admirable attainment, because of your thoroughly consecrated service to God and com- munity, because you are the inspiring ideal of the'youth who know you, and because your life of sacrifice for others and your devotion to your ideals exemplifies the highest type of Americanism, we, the Seniors of '58 ded- icate this Volume XIV of the FOMEHISO to you, our be- loved principal. COLORS: Old Rose and Silver Old Rose is the symbol of richness, value, depth, culture, inspiration and true wisdom that is not of today alone, but of all times. Silver is the symbol of value.
