COLORS: Green and White Class History FLOWER: White Camellia In September 1951 we mounted the first rung up the ladder of success when we became Freshmen in Fort Meade High School. For our Freshman president we elected James Williams. Because of their previous experience with those confused, mixed up kids, as Freshmen are sometimes called, we were lucky to have Mrs. Orr and Mr. McCullars to give us the guidance we needed so badly. It did not take long to get acquainted with everyone and everything. We tried our luck at basketball, football, band, cheerleading, baseball and track. We entered into the many activities of the school. By now we had learned the ropes and were looking forward to the possibilities of the years that lay ahead. Since James Williams had served us well as president for our Freshman year, we re-elected him for our Sophomore year. Our sponsors were Miss Lett and Mr. Curtis. The big event was the magazine sale. We had sore feet and aching muscles, but in the long run, it paid off. We were quite proud of the fact that a mem- ber of our class was honored with a basketball award this year. We started our Junior year with George Green as president. Mrs. Carlton and Doc Harrison were given the privilege of being sponsors of the Jolly Juniors --a little too jolly at times. At last, the long-awaited hour arrived and we journeyed to the auditori- um to meet the representative from Herff-Jones, and after what seemed a couple of years, really just a month or two, we were sporting class rings. At the basketball games we took over the concessions and did unusually well. On December 10, we presented our class play, The Inner Willy, with Charles McCue playing the title role. The auditorium was filled to capacity and the play was a huge success. With the dividends from our various activities we were financially able to ask the seniors to be our guests on a trip to the Deep South. ” (banquet theme). With large columns erected on the stage and the setting of a southern plantation the gym didn't seem the same as it had the day before. September 1954, shouts of Whoopee! We're seniors! correction, DIGNIFIED SENIORS could be heard. Some people raised eyebrows at the word dignified--but did they ex- pect us to be seniors and dignified at the same time? Outrageous! Charles McCue was elected president for our Senior year, and he has certainly served us well. And having recuperated during the summer, Mrs. Carlton and Mr. Harrison again took over as Senior Sponsors. Our first undertaking was sponsoring football dances. Again we were honored with three senior boys being recognized with football awards. In March we presented our Senior Play, Lady Be Good, and later in May we were the guests of the Juniors at the annual Junior-Senior Banquet. Soon will be the big night and we'11 be out in the world to solve our own problems and make our own decisions. So you see, we’re NOT AT THE TOP, BUT ALWAYS CLIMBING. Roberta Sturgis, Historian Class Prophecy Ten years, in Florida State Mental Institution, ten years after graduation, and the doctors have finally decided my mind is strong enough for one day outside. On the way to look up my schoolmates, I am surprised at what 1 see. Why, all you have to do to catch a plane, NO—a rocket, is take the elevator going up and catch the next rocket that comes by! First, I'll go to the library to see what I can find. There are several interesting advertise ments. One in big black print— LITTLE MOE, THE MAN FOR THE DOUGH. DREXEL MOSLEY--Income Tax Collector. Hum-m-m Another interesting advertisement read- You need us! We need you! (Victims no doubt) Apply for entrance to Professor FRANK KIMBRIL, Dean, Whatchamadoole University. I find that KITTY SWARTSEL and RUBBY O’HARA have improved on the baby sitting service. They now run one called Swartsel’s Son-Sitting Service. Rubby gets the busi- ness and Kitty does the sitting. ROBERTA STURGIS is now a famous artist. Her latest, can now be seen on the back of all comic books. It is known as Sturgis’ Super-sonic Super-saturated Symmetrical Splash. Another famous name, the creator of latest fashions, is NELL GREEN. Her newest line is guaranteed to attract attention and not to shrink. No wonder, they are clothless! EDGAR DEAN has also made a name for himself in the bakery business. He specializes in 3D’s, commonly known as Dean's Drippy Delights.” Then I see the most shocking news item of all. LaVERNE HOWZE has just won the presidency of the UNION STATES, with RONALD BEVIS as vice president. Traitors! HUBBARD SAVAGE has come up with a new theory. He now believes that Mother Nature fills some stockings better than Santa Claus. GEORGE GREEN is a famous inventor. His best invention is his Automatic Bottle Opener, guaranteed to save time and labor. You only need to adjust the opener to the size bottle, hold the bottle in place, mash a button and BINGO! off comes the top! JEAN COLEMAN is now a cover girl. She has appeared on the cover of Hancock's Horrible Horror Magazine owned by KENNETH HANCOCK. MARY LOU WALLER got amazing results when she crossed a woodpecker and a homing pigeon. Now it not only delivers the message but knocks too. CAROL RUSS is really going places. She has invented a cure for under grown raisins. JAMES NEWSOME has been elected Mr. Universe of 1965. WINIFRED PAGE, the new Miss Solar System is currently advertising CHARLES Mc- CUE's completely new toothpaste. He uses his mother's old lye soap recipe. (Sounds like Charlie). ELVA PRINE and EARLENE LEACH have a space-motel known as Early Elves Easy Sleep. One night it is on Mars and the next it may be on Pluto. It's Portable!! JAMES BEACHAM and DOYLE POWELL now own the swankest joint on Venus. The Come and Get It rocket stop. ZOELLA LAMB now has an important job, looking after the little Lambs! RUTH ANN HEDDEN made her millions with her hit song You're in the Pasture Now. Farmers find they have more contented cows when they lull them to sleep to its melo- dious strains. On leaving the library, the first thing that catches my eye is the H W Rocket-Port. As I wander over I find the owners to be my ole Classmates, KATHRYN HANCOCK and DIANE WORTHEN. Just before we take off for the moon, I ask the rocketdess what H W stands for. Much to my amazement, it means Hope you get there, and Won't come back. While zooming through space, I discovered that ALENE HENDRICK was aboard. She is now a secretary for ROBERT WALKER'S nursery, where they are using atomic and hydrogen energy to bud oak and tangerine trees. Alene also has her own private floating office which is the reason for her trip. It seems, it floated off during the night and she is trying to find it. Things were peaceful until suddenly something whizzed by. Why, it was none other than that ole earthly speed demon, NANCY BROYLES. Oh-Oh who's this catching up with her? Why, it's a space-patrolman and none other than RICHARD SCHOONOVER. Well, ANYTHING can happen. As I land on the moon, the first thing I notice is the tall buildings (slight gravity.) The tallest of all is Jackies Jumping Jack building, a very complicated conglomeration of algebraic figures. Imagine my surprise when the owner, JACKIE McDOUGALD, tells me that REECE TAYLOR was the architect. The next place that strikes my fancy is Willies' Wild Wonder Women owned by WYLENE WILLIAMS. Their main attraction features DELORES Monroe KILPATRICK and ALENE Russell” COOK. How times have changed! Ah-how I wish my cell mates (They're still in padded cells) BARBARA HENDRICK and BARBARA YOUNG could see all this. After all this, I decided to risk ALICE MAITS' and MARJORIE CARTER'S invention-The Super Safe Space-O-Shoot, guaranteed to get you SOMEWHERE1 hope it's earth. 'Tis! There's Doc- Dess I Better Doe. Joan Burt, Class Prophet Last Will and Testament We, the Senior Class of 1955 being in good mental condition, and of sound body, real- izing that our high school days are about over, and feeling that we are capable of dis- posing of our possessions, do hereby publish and declare this to be OUR LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT, thereby destroying all former wills made by us at any time.
