Cast Will and Zest ament May it be known to all men by these present that we, the Senior Class of 1953, being of sound body, disposing mind, doubtful memory, and of a firm hope of a successful life hereafter, do make and publish this, our last Will and Testament, hereby destroy- ing all former wills made by us at any time thus far. During the course of our various careers we have obtained an abundance of knowledge and experiences, by our own physical and intellectual exertions with this and that we have inherited from preceding classes. We bequeath and dispose of as follows: Section I: To the faculty individually and collectively we leave our sincere thanks and appreciation. Section II: To our Sponsors we leave our most sincere gratitude for their help and understanding. Section III: To the lowly, undignified and irresponsible Junios, we leave our superior knowledge of all things, also the front seats in Chapel and the newly ac- acquired privilege of coming in last. Section IV: To the Sophomore class we will our courage and ingenuity to overcome all obstacles. Section V: To the ignorant and unsuspecting Freshmen we leave a deep sense of pity. VIOLET ROGERS leaves her ability to make speeches to LOLA STARLING. EARL COLLINS leaves his athletic ability to EDWARD ADAMS. LEO DURRANCE leaves his small, trim figure to LLOYD IVEY. BOBBY MITCHELL leaves his ways with women to his bosom buddy GEORGE EVANS JUNE PEACOCK leaves her extra boy friends to EARLENE LEACH. JUNE KURISH leaves her bird-like voice and legs (also bird-like) to ROSE MARY THOMAS. MARY ETHEL McMILLAN leaves her sweet voice to WINNIFRED McMILLAN. LA REACE POWELL leaves her book on good posture to SUE SHIELDS. JOYCE DAVIS leaves her 18-inch waist line to SHARON LASTINGER. MAX LOGAN leaves his old clothes, size 10, to JIMMY POLLARD. Class Mistory CLASS COLORS - - - Green and White CLASS FLOWER-----White Rose On the morning, September 2, 1949, you could almost hear the rolling ripple of Peace River in the wind that was blowing clear and fresh against a lot of slightly shaking Freshmen as we arrived on the campus and knocked the phosphate mud out of our shoes before entering that large and enormous High School for the first time. Little did we know of the fun and happy experiences that same eight o'clock bell would ring down in the history of time for us. Our sponsors, Mr. and Mrs. McCullars, helped us to get adjusted to Changing Classes. We elected A. C. Pierce for our President. Every Freshman glowed with pride when Peggy Dotson was given the honor of being Miss Fort Meade High, and of course, we could never forget the hilarious rat day we had! We dived into our Sophomore year full force! It appeared we had wasted no time in getting acquainted. By now we were spread out in every activity in school: football, band, basketball, cheerleader and others. The teachers always got a strange look on their faces when we were called Sober Sophomores. This was the year we earned our motto - We Have Honesty. With our president, Morris Lunn, the class and our Sponsors, Miss Noland and Doc Harrison, all working together, we made a big profit out of our magazine sales and concession stand. With a big summer of swimming, skiing, or just loafing in the Drug Store behind us, we were all eager to start our Junior Year. This was a year of heavy subjects for all of us but we managed to live up to our title Jolly Juniors. After a good fight, we became Volleyball Champs for the third year straight. Morris Lunn was elected President. Mrs. Dotson and Miss Lett were our sponsors. The biggest thrill of the year was showing our new class rings to all the under classmen. First we sponsored a Leap Year Dance, next we took over the basketball concessions again and then we had a smash hit play. You'll Die Laughing. We gave the Seniors a big banquet at the Yacht Club in Lakeland, using the eye catching theme of Show Boat. Dignified Seniors!!!! This is what we have worked and studied for ail these years! By special request we had Mrs. Dotson and Doc Harrison for sponsors, and they served us well. To make money we sponsored football dances and our very successful Senior Play. Johnny Gordon was our class president, and Morris Lunn presided over the Student Body. Though we started out with an enrollment of sixty-five, we now have forty-five graduates. Some classmates left us, but fortunately some have been replaced. The class of '53 has been spread to all parts of the earth, like a handful of phosphate sand blown away by a playful gust of wind. Some will accomplish success, while still others may be failures, it is up to them. Our most cherished memories will be of those that guided us into maturity, the time spent in class rooms, in the halls and on the campus, but most of all the friends we are leaving behind us in Fort Meade High. LUCIAN HENDRICK leaves his easy going manner and friendly ways to JAMES WILLIAMS. SHELTON JACKSON leaves his studious ways to DWAYNE JOHNSON. MORRIS LUNN leaves his political prowess to JACK BRONSON. KENNETH PARRISH leaves his book H0w to Finish High School in Eight Years to ( anybody that wants it. J. C. ROWELL wills his crew cut to JAMES MILLER. BILLY WEST leaves his masculine ways to JOHN COLLIER. JEAN BARNETT leaves her ability to be married and go to school at the same time to HAZEL O'BERRY HANCOCK. JOYCE McQUIEN leaves her quiet studious ways to KITTY LIGHTSEY. BETTY LOU CANNON leaves her athletic ability and beautiful red hair to SUE DURRANCE PEGGY DOTSON will her secretarial ability to the next senior class secretary.
