CLASS HISTORY CLASS COLORS —-Red and White CLASS FLOWER—Red Rose We are the Seniors of the class of '52. Although we have struggled for twelve long years to reach our goal, the time has now come when we can proudly say we have made it. Some of us will shed tears of regret, but most of our tears will be tears of joy, as we realize that we are about to cross the first great threshold of our lives. In the year 1940, about 56 little brats enrolled in the Fort Meade school for the first time. Mrs. Lila Johnson and Miss Kathryn Little were given the privilege of reforming us into sweet little tots. As the years passed, we began to look forward to our first year in high school. When it arrived, we were really green Freshmen, but it didn't take us long to learn our way around. Mr. and Mrs. F. N. McCullars were our sponsors, and Tommy Martin was elected president. Rat Day was the most outstanding event of the year. After a year's experience in high school, we obtained our title of Silly Sophomores. We elected Jimmie Spieth as president. Mrs. Orrilla Smith and Mrs. Nellie May White were our sponsors. W e had our big Magazine Sale that year which was a whale of a success. Now we had achieved the name of Jolly Juniors, so we felt big and important. Mrs. White and Miss Etoile Reid were our sponsors for the year, and we elected Emory Lamb as our president. To begin our money making projects, we sponsored a bang-up Bake Sale, and presented our three-act comedy, Calling All Carrs. The biggest events of that year were the ordering of our class rings, and our thrilling Junior-Senior Banquet, the theme of which was Maytime. ” This year we acquired our most important title, Dignified Seniors. To start the year rolling, we elected Bill Miley as president. Our sponsors were Miss Helen Godwin and, you guessed it, Mrs. White. To begin making money for our annual, we sponsored the football dances, which proved to be a lot of fun and very successful. Our Senior play, which we can never rorget, proved to be another smashing success. Though we started out with an enrollment of fifty-six, we now have thirty-seven grad- uates. Some of our classmates left us to join the armed services, while others joined the married rank, but fortunately some of them have been replaced by newcomers. The Senior Class of 1952 is gone forever, but our most cherished memories will be those we spent in the classrooms, in the halls, and on the campus of our dear ole Fort Meade High School. Carolyn Douglas Class Historian LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT We, the Senior Class of 1952, in the city of Fort Meade, County of Polk, State of Florida, being of sound mind and body, and possessing a vague memory of the past and high aims for the future, do hereby bequeath, make, publish and declare this our last will and testament: Section I: To the faculty we will our deepest and sincere appreciation for the care- ful, patient guidance they have shown us the past four years. Section II: To our sponsors we bequeath our love and appreciation for helping us over many obstacles and never deserting us. Section III: To the inexperienced, undignified, unsophisticated Juniors we will our dignity, our sophistication, our experience, our ingenuity, our un- questionable importance, our evident intelligence and our one and only Senior privilege, the front seats in the auditorium. Section IV: To the Sophomore Class we will our capability of overcoming all obstacles that will stand in their path to success. Section V: To the unsuspecting and carefree Freshmen we will our deepest sympathy, because of our understanding of what will confront them in the years to come. Section VJ: To our cherished F. M. H. Waller and Burt Thomas as special deputies to en- force said tasks previously mentioned. And on this day, June 4, 1952. in the presence of those mentioned in said will and in presence of the below signed, do make, publish, and declare this our last will and testament. WITNESSES- (SEAL) CLASS of 1952 Duane Peacock Attorney At Law PROPHECY It is now the spring of 1962, the date set for our class reunion. Being a door-to-door salesman, selling the latest in vacuum cleaners, Spieth's Sensational Supersonic Suckers, ” it was natural that I should remind the class of the forthcoming event. Knowing that JoLaine Hudson was owner and editor of her own newspaper. The Bartow Bi-weekly Blab, I stopped to see her about a classified ad for my vacuum cleaners. While waiting, 1 glanced through some old papers and saw several familiar names. It seems that Mary Jo Cooksey and Annie Marie Hjort are the leading entertainers in one of the many night clubs owned by New York's most dashing playboy, Dick Ginther. Ruth Miller lives in Paris, where she runs a fashionable beauty salon. Duane Peacock has just coached the Torry Tech Terrors through a successful season. They are scheduled to play New Year's Day in the Finger Bowl. Annie Laura Adkins, Daisy Bronson, and Rozene Cannon have taken over the Howard Johnson Restaurant chain. They combine good food and excellent medical attention for the people who eat it. Howell Dean is now a very successful artist. His most famous work is a picture en- titled, Looking Down a Well in the Dark. ” Ruth Dishong became the first woman to swim the English Channel underwater. We all knew Ruth could do it, as she has never been known to give out of breath. Harold Powell now offers a sensational mail order muscle-building course. Power House Powell says, You can have a body like mine; in fact, you can have my body. ” After leaving the newspaper office, I stopped by what was formerly Vam's Pharmacy. I was greeted by the new manager, Olan Cooley. While having a coke together, we discussed our former classmates. Emory Lamb, he informed me, is living in New York City, where he is a Wall Street broker; in fact, no one on Wall Street is broker than Emory. Evelyn Grimes, the author of the world renowned novel, Never Amber, is living in Hollywood with her actor husband, incidentally her fifth. Betty Johnson is a wealthy clothing designer, famous for originating diamond studded hip boots. Of course, we all know that Jack Reeves has replaced Arthur Godfrey. His program is known as Jack Reeves and All the Little Smodfreys. Myra Cox and Carolyn Douglas have delighted the continent with their new comic strip, Little Orphan Fannie. Betty Kelley and Ruth Dotson are stenographers for a rival vacuum cleaner manufac- turer, so nothing further shall be said about them. Vernon Hancock fulfilled his life-long ambition by having the Bigamy Law declared Unconstitutional. Audrey Aycock is manager of the new Fort Meade T.V. Station, where she has her own thirty minute Sunday afternoon show, Making Marriage Work Even If Your Husband Won't. ' Yvonne rarker and Jacqueline Harris have combined novelty and practicality in their latest invention, an exploding apple for teachers who give homework. Alan Graff and W. C. Flowers have revolutionized the movie industry. They don't expect you to walk in or drive in their theaters, just crawl in. Charles Kimbril bought the Banner Fire Works Company. ” He has changed the name to Kimbril’s Krummy Krackers. Jack Henderson is a successful Florida cattleman. His greatest fame has come from his new breed of cows, the Schmoofords. Gene Allen Mann has outclassed Dick Pope by leaps and bounds. He is now the only man in Polk County who can sing Ave Maria while skiing down Sand Mountain. There was a placard in the window of the drugstore announcing that Jackie Lightsey was to lecture at Podunk University on Proper Study Habits in High School. Ruth Belcher is now retired. She made a quick fortune with her sensational new pro- duct, Belcher's Burpless Bicarbonate. Wanda Beacham has made a name for herself in the medical world through her own special treatment for neurotic cats. Olan and I laughed over the trouble I had seeing Bill Miley. Being President of the United States and running his own fishing camp, he keeps very busy. Henry Yates has opened a DeSoto-Plymouth Agency in India. Vivian Ard sails next week to become his 50th wife. These ten years have gone swiftly by, but we have accomplished much. It was ex- pected that we would go far, but no one would say as to the direction.
