CLASS HISTOBI We are the Seniore of Fort Meade High School, the class of 1950. For many years we have struggled to win this title, “Seniors”; and, although some of us didn't quite make it all the way, let us give a cheer for those who have. One bright September morning in 193®. aa a group of shy little tots (what a change has taken place!), we started our first day at school. Soon our bashfulness was gone and we began to look around and find out our classmates' names. We wonder now how our teachers ever put up with us, trying to teach us now to write our names and learn our alphabet. For eight long years we struggled through our lower grades, thinking each year we were a little better than the year before. We soon learned who was better when the teachers called us down to our places. For it was they who tried to make lit- tle “angels out of little “brats . In September of 1946 we were given the name of FresnmBn, a very suitable title, no doubt. After having elected David Creech as our president, we started our first year in High School off with a bang! Bat Day was the big hit of the year for us, in more ways than one. After another year had gone by we were beginning to feel very proud of our new name, “Sophomores . Richard Allen was elected as our president and we had many activities to attend to. We started by sponsoring the Sunny South Quartet , which was one of our big projects for the year. It might be stated, too, that we made Bat Day a pleasant surprise for the Freshmen. The year 19 +8 found us a happy group of Juniors . Again we selected Richard Allen as our president, and again we were very busy. We began by ordering our class rings. How pretty we thought they were! Kext on our list was the Junior Play, Mama's Baby Boy . A good one it was, too, with Ira Sturgis playing the title role. One of the most exciting events of the year was the Junior-Senior Banquet. We were very proud of the fact that our banquet was the first to be held in the new gymnasium. The time came before we could realize it when we were dignified Seniors , (And were we dignified!) Our thoughts were turned to the more serious side of life, and under the capable leadership of our president. Bichard Allen, we started our last year of school. We ordered our caps, gowns, and invitations. For our Senior Play we presented My Heart's in High . Before we knew it our Senior year of school was nearly gone. We were feeling Commencement in the air. Soon the day of which we had dreamed and toward which we had worked for twelve long years would really be here. But tnen it was with sad- dened hearts that we realized we would regret leaving our dear old Alma Mater and being separated from our ever-admonishing teachers and our classmates so dear. And so we resolved that we would always treasure the memories of our school days and, in recalling our varied experiences, use them as a foundation upon whicn to build a gloriou8 future.
