“CLASS FLOWER Red Rose CLASS COLORS White and Red CLASS MOTTO ■Be Not Wise In Your Own Conceits CLASS HISTORY We are the Seniors of the Class of '40! We have struggled from the first grade to the final year----tne Senior year. Some made It In twelve years; for otners, It took longer, but we all made It; Looking down on the first graders, we can nardly Imagine that we were ever so small. What a cnange . From pigtails with ribbons and short pants to dignified Seniors.' On September 6, 1944, we found that we very green fresh- men, trying to get acquainted with the Idea of being In a real high school. This was what we haa been looking forward to, and now that we were here, we didn't know wnat to do with ourselves. We elected Joe Warren Joiner as our class president. Struggling onward, we became sophomores In time. George Atwell was elected class president. we sponsorea Stunt Night , which went over wltn a bang.' Several picnics and parties were enjoyed at our favorite spot, Klssengen Springs. As Juniors, we felt Important. Roderick Streetman was elected president of our class. Many were the plans, which had to be worked out, and tasks to be accompllsned. Money, for the exciting Junior-Senior Banquet, was our star project. This was accomplished by the presentation of our play entitled Aaron Slick from Punkln Crick . The banquet was held at the Haven Hotel In Winter Haven, with great gusto . The most thrilling event of the year, however, was the ordering of our class rings. Now, Just over the horizon, was our goal----that of being Seniors with all the fabled privileges. Now came the all Important Dignified Senior year. We started the year off by electing Joe Warren Joiner to serve as president. Our activities Included parties, picnics, and a trip to the beach. The Senor Prom, held at tne Sorosls Cluo In Lake- land on December 18th, proved to be tne big social event of the year. The Seniors ana their dates had a gay time. The colored balloons, mistletoe, a Christmas tree, and otner decorations created a cheerful atmosphere. The next thing on the program was tne Junior-Senior Banquet, closely followed by the exciting Senior Play. Realizing that graduation was drawing near, we became more serious minded. Thoughts of regret crowded our minds------we would never again be students of Fort Meade High School; never again would we mingle wltn teacners and frlenas In our classrooms. Looking back upon the good times we had enjoyed, we knew tnat Fort Meade High School would always be near and dear to our nearts. Dorothy Arnold Class Historian
