PRESIDENTS MESSA GE We must seek in our time wisdom to discern what to do and courage to speak and to act. We must pledge ourselves for a better world in which men may deal justly with one another and in which oppression and strife may no longer curse the earth. We will find security for ourselves only as we seek security for all people on earth. A prerequisite lies in the creation of a world community, only recently have governmental leaders acknowledged that education applies to international affairs. A truly educated world popu- lace will strive to avoid an international catastrophe. Continued growth of colleges and universities is necessitated by the demands of an ever-increasing national student population. Presently Fort Lewis A gl M College is in the strongest position of its history in all its resources of faculty, staff and physical plant. Acknowledging that excel- lence has its price in any field, the administration is looking ahead to the demands in facilities and staff to maintain excellence. The provision of the required facilities of staff and physical plant is acknowledged as a prerequisite of excellenceg however, the individual stu- dent must also acknowledge that he must pay the price of excellence in de- votion, hard work and a sincere effort to do his best. Today, when nuclear bombs, and quided missiles threaten civilization and the human race itself, time is perhaps a nation's greatest resource. You must utilize your time to the maximum in expediting your academic background preparatory to en- tering into your chosen profession. The streamlined liberal arts curriculum, programed to a trimester calendar as proposed by this College will make it possible for the student to complete the curriculum requirements for the Baccalaureate Degree in less than three calendar years. Fort Lewis A gl M College accepts the responsibility of growing in strength and resources to meet the needs of an expanding student population and of providing the kind of educational program needed by the graduate to meet the challenges of today's and of tomorrow's world. The administration and faculty pledge to its students a sense of community of purpose devoted to the pursuit of excellence in all its forms as appropriate to a college. Charles Dale Rea President 11
