The L's fought hard for their first undefeated sea- son in the history of Ft. Lauderdale High School and were rated second in the state by statewide polls of coaches and sport writers. Outstanding yardage and scoring proved the L’s to be the best L.H.S. team in years and aided them in attaining many records as well as in earning in- dividual positions on All-State, All-County, and All- Conference Teams. In the first game of the season, the hard-hitting Flying L’s ended an 11-year losing streak with Miami Jackson, slamming to an 18-7 victory over the big city boys before packed stands of enthusiastic fans. Through mud and rain, the L’s fought on to beat Lake Worth 32-0, and South Dade 26-0. Vero Beach was a tough team, crossing the L’s dou- ble stripe twice and leading at half time. The L’s came smashing back from behind to win 27-13- Before a packed Stranahan Field crowd, the L’s per- formed a mighty battle with the South Broward Bull- dogs, but to no avail. The Bulldogs were out to hold our great L’s to a scoreless tie of 0-0. Lauderdale gained a total of 3,144 yards for the 1956 season against the opponents' total of 1,264, making an average of 314 yards per game against the op- ponents’ 126 yards per game. Total points for the season were 294 as compared to the oponents' total of 33, and 140 first downs as compared to 69- The L’s inntercepted 17 passes for the season. Captain 190
