GOLF Increased activity marked the Flying L linksmen's '53-'54 season as Sponsor Andy Kruse slated many more matches with sur- rounding schools. Senior Bill Phelps paced his team- mates throughout his last year with consistent par scores. The '54 team hopes to better the '53 record in which the L's trekked to Big Ten and State compe- tition copping seventh and eighth positions respec- tively. The Dugout. REVIEW NORMAN SWIGLER Coac h During Coach Lloyd Frazer's third year as baseball mentor the 1953 Flying L's improved and posted a record of nine wins and nine losses for a .500 percentage. Despite the loss of Bill Huegele's pitching ability, the '54 version of the L's should be a winning combination. In Coach Norman Swigler's initial year as head baseball coach the L's had more than their share of experience. There were eight returning lettermen, five of whom had two or more years of experience with the L's. In the pitching department last year Bill Huegele had a 4-3 record while Al West wound up with a 2-1 record. Steve Etts posted a win, and George Shaw won two and lost three. The outstanding mound performance last year was the no-hit game that Al West hurled at Miami Beach. This year the L's played a twenty-one game schedule. TRACK After a lapse of two years, the thud of the shot- put and discus can now be heard on the athletic field. This sport gave us the name of Flying L's many years ago. Under the direction of Coach Ty Smith, the track squad has made ar- rangements for work-out on the South Broward cinder track.
