• • • working hard Nearly half of the student body at Fort Hunt, especially juniors and seniors, held part-time jobs after school. According to the IJ.S. Department of Labor, 42 percent of the males and 37 percent of the females, aged 16-17, worked. Students became more open-minded in their feelings about working. Having a job meant having extra cash in their pock¬ ets. Also a job gave one the opportunity to carry responsibilities. “1 am working now, not only for money, but also for the work experience,” stated one student. Indeed, for many, the work experience itself— with the feeling of accomplishment it gene¬ rated—was as beneficial as the weekly paycheck. ! 20
