Homecoming Climaxes Weeks of Preparation For hours the week preceding Homecoming 1964, stu- dents stuffed napkins and crepe paper and sprayed paint for the theme, Harvest Festival Pickett ' s pond took on the aura of a football field with yard lines and goal posts; Phi Sigs decorated their house. Then, Friday evening, everyone pooled spirit in the snake dance, running, riding, and yelling to the bonfire and pep rally. Amid excitement and tension, Ima Jean Atwood rvas robed as queen. Saturday morning in the windy cold, alumni arrived, parade entries lined up and 19 floats w f ere judged. Mean- while, the class of ' 67 treated the freshmen to a chilly swim in Big Creek. Frosh, rebelling at losing the tug-of-war, threw in the sophomores. Despite dust and wind, spectators overflowed Lewis Field Stadium for the game and queen ' s crowning, although Wash- bum ' s Ichabods won 14-7. A dance and the usual private parties culminated the weekend festivities. For the second consecutive year, Alpha Kappa Lambda won sweep- stakes. Their combine harvested Ichabods who were administered first aid by nurses from an ambulance. An apple chewing worm won first place in women ' s division for Delta Zeta. First place in men ' s division went to Sigma Phi Epsilon whose float depicted the Headless Horseman pursuing Jehabod Crane. Newsman Club ' s float He who reaps, took first in open division. Alumni, faculty and friends relived college days at the smorgasbord.
