The production of this book required persever-ence. devotion and cooperation from everyone. It is a direct result of this time and effort that we have been able to complete this year's Siren. We hope that in the years to come it will clearly implant in our minds the happy and unforgetable times of 1980. The year started out with many problems, the main one being that we didn't have an advisor. It is with this that we would like to express our deepest gratitude to Mrs. O'Brien and Mrs. Annala for freely devoting their time to our yearbook. Without their valuable guidance and encouragement, there would not have been a beginning. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. LaSarso for extending his knowledge of yearbooks to us Mr. Steve Aloan, our representative) Dick and Pete Durling, our photographers) and all of our patrons, advertisrs, teachers, and advisors: Mrs. Meron. Mr. Rodgers. Mr. Smith. Mr. Kilrain, and Mr. Ecker. We would also like to show our appreciation to each and every school member for helping out by purchasing the yearbook. At this point, before turning another page, sit back and relax. M7e began by electing our officers who were; Mary Roberts, President; Nancy Williams, Vice-President; Jeanne Carpenter, Secretary; and Mary Nichols, Treasurer. Later in the year we sold hot plates in order to begin raising money for our treasury. FALL '77- We entered our Sophomore year with much enthusiasm and got our class projects under-way in a hurry. The first thing we did was elect new officers: Mark Lewza, President; Nancy Williams. Vice-President; Shelley Hervieux. Secretary; and Mary Nichols, Treasurer. Student Council members were: Mary Baldwin. Judy Corriveau, Becky Eldridge. Shelley Hervieux. Mary Hubbard, Mary Nichols, Mary Roberts, Jine Shaw and Julie Wilson. Fundraising activities for the year included a gong show, held in November; dances and several sales, all of which were very successful. In April we ordered our class rings, which we designed ourselves. FALL 78- Our Junior year began with great expectations and much work to be done. The first thing we did to get the year going was elect officers: Tim Sheehan, President; Paul Hendricks. Vice-President; Shelley Hervieux, Secretary, and Mary Nichols Treasurer. We had many activities to keep us busy, including football concession stands, and several dances, which we held to raise money for our prom. In October we sponsored our first Halloween dance, which proved to be very successful, as well as fun for all. On January 23 we began planning for our prom by selecting our theme, and organizing committees to begin with the preparations. After months of planning, our Junir Prom, STAR RIDER , became a reality. The gym was decorated with stars, streamers, and glitter, and all those attending enjoyed the music of Moondance . It was a lovely evening for all. and was highlighted by the crowning of our king and queen, Syl Rabin and Nancy Williams. Serving on court were, Jill Bartlett. Mary Nichols, Mary Roberts, Debbie Robinson, Rosemarie Sandora, Jine Shaw. Brodie Etu, Steve Hazzard. Paul Hendricks, Tom LaSarso, Mark Lewza, and Arvid O'Connell. All in all it was a very enjoyable Junior year for us. FALL 79- In our final year, as Seniors at F.E.H.S. wt? did much to keep us busy as we plunged toward the end of our high school years. We got straight to work by electing as officers. Mary Nichols, President, Mark Lewza, Vice President, Shelley Hervieux. Secretary, and Tom LaSarso. Treasurer. The first thing we did was hold a dance and a sale to start building our treasury up again. We held a second Halloween dance, which was just as successful as the first. During basketball season tve operated the concession stand which proved to be profitable as well as fun. Plans for the year included the possibility of a Senior class outing before the year ended. On June 21 we attended the Alumni Banquet and became new members of the association. The next day, June 22 we graduated from Fort Edward High School. The class of 1980 would like to thank all our teachers and administrators who made our four years at F.E.H.S. enjoyable and a success. Special thanks are given to our advisors, Mr. Ecker. Mr. K Hr a in, Mrs. Meron. Mr. Rogers, and Mr. Smith. Without their help all our dreams of class projects and activities would never have been accomplished. In addition to its many trips, it has also sponsored numerous events ranging from dances to rollerskating. Members of the Activities Club have also held several sales in order to raise money for their trips to New York City, which have been the high points of the Activities Club excursions over the years. In addition to sponsoring dances and holding meetings, it has seen La Tuna and also has eaten at Mexican Restaurants. The highlight of every year for the club, however, is its annual Christmas party. This event is held by the advisor, Mrs. Hardick, who each year opens her home and devotes her time to holding this fiesta . In preparation, each member cooks a Spanish dish while the senior members build a special pinata. Trophies are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the annual ping-pong tournament and, in general, a good time is had by all. We just hope these traditions of the club are continued in the future, so that many more people will have a chance to enjoy the experience and Mrs. Hardick s company. 69 70 71 NA TIONAL HONOR SOCIETY INTRAMURAL BASKETBALL 74 76 77 CLASS PROPHECY JUNE - 1990 The Class of 1980 recently held its tenth reunion in the reception room of the newly opened Fort Edward Country Club. All members were able to attend. The affair was coordinated by MARY ROBERTS, chairwoman of the FEHS Alumni Association and winner of the 1990 Mother of the Year” award. Interior design for the club was done by JILL BARTLETT, a famous interior decorator. and landscaping was designed by PAUL HENDRICKS, who runs his own landscaping business. The hall was decorated with lovely flower arrangements done by DA WN SA VILLE, who fulfilled her dream of becoming a florist. LINDA MERCIER. who owns her own bakery, provided cake and baked goods for the party. Entertainment included the dynamic comedy-dance duo Bonnie-Jean, formed by our own BONNIE VERDAASDONK and JEANNE CARPENTER; and music was provided by MARK LEWZA'S recently revived band. Joining Mark were his former band members: TOM LaSARSO. who took time off from his Olympic training as a runner, and TIM SHEEHAN, who took time off from his busy schedule as an insurance agent for Sheehan Agency, Inc. Some more of our class members have made it big in the field of technology. DEBBIE ROBINSON is an industrialist lab technician for Scott Paper; LISA SHORTSLEEVES is the chairwoman for NASA S new Rocket ; and MARY NICHOLS and DA VID McDOUGALL flew in from Brazil where they are doing a computer science project for the United States government project Save Those Coffee Beans”. Along the way. they picked up JUDY CORRIVEAU, who is a math teacher at Harvard. BECKY CARTER now owns and operates her own ranch, where LYNNE IVES and LAURIE SUDDARD work. PEGGY MERCIER and CATHY WINCHELL have their own driving school. Others doing well in their own businesses are BILL SIMMONS and SCOTT BROWN, who have their own welding shops. Would you believe that we even have classmates making it in sports? JEFF OSGOOD is winning medals galore in cross country events; SYL RABINE and BRODIE ETU are pro basketball players; and BECKY ELDRIDGE is an Olympic boxing referee. Best of all, though, are our classmates holding down the fort at FEHS: KA THY LONGDEN and COLLEEN GRAY took over the business office; PAT VARNEY is the cafeteria dietician; LEN DURHAM took over Mr. Roger's job; GAIL SIMMONS and DICK DURRIN teach at BOCES: JACOUIE VERDAASDONK teaches high school gym while MARY HUBBARD teaches middle school gym: JEFF ETU coaches basketball; JOHN JORDAN is a driver education teacher. LAURA CORLEW teaches in the elementary school; JOAN ROSE is the main office secretary; RICH DONAHUE, DA VE McNUTT and B.J. DA VIDSON serve on the school board; and believe it or not, the new high school principal is, ARV O'CONNEL. Coming in from the Big Apple were: JINE SHA W, a secretary; CHRIS STIPANO, a photographer; and NANCY WILLIAMS, the author of the soon to be published novel Speak Up For What You Believe In . Still remaining in FE are LORI ETU. a penniless pizza maker; STEVE HAZZARD. a bartender at Ken's; and JULIE WILISON, a McDonald’s manager. OPEN LETTER FROM THE STAFF AND ADVISORS OF THE mo SIREN This page was planned to be dedicated to the seniors who have received any special honors. This could be a scholarship or involvement in any activity of an academic nature. We regret, however, that at the time of our last yearbook deadline, the recipients of these honors had not all been chosen. Therefore, we were unable to obtain enough information to include a picture and a list of those who should be mentioned in this area. We would like to use this space, however, to congratulate those special students. They have shown hard work and dedication in achieving academic excellence, in all its aspects, over the course of their high school years. We know they will continue to achieve in the world at large. We hope that their example is followed by other students in the years to come. Below is a list of the awards given at the end of the year.
