Clash Uanolphecmg at 1950 Enroute from New York to Brazil by Pan-American World Airways Flight No. 10, I suddenly learned from the stewardess, VERLA SMITH, that we were to be grounded in New Orleans. I was dreading the delay, which was caused by a hurricane over the Caribbean Sea, when suddenly I realized that it was the Madri Gras season. This colorful festival was introduced about 1857 by the French colonists who settled here. Strolling along the bustling waterfront, I noticed a sign, World's Largest Market , NORMAN REXING, Proprietor, and I knew that one of my classmates was on the road to success. Hurrying to the outer office I was amazed to find CAROLYN TITZER, his private secretary, pounding an electric typewriter. She told me that Norman had a business deal with some world famous scientific producers. The inner office door opened, and the two kings, DONALD GRAPER, King Hybrid Corn of 1960, and EDDIE MENY, King Wheat of 1960, stepped out. After visiting with Donald and Eddie, I con- tinued reminiscing with Norman. About that time the phone rang and PHYLLIS BEASLEY, you guessed it, Norman's wife, was telling him a list of groceries to be purchased on his way home from the office. . At closing time we drove Norman's car, The Wilkerson Custom , built by the Wilkerson Corporation of which JACK WILKERSON is president. Jack's hobby of race driving paid off this year. In addition to winning the 500 mile Memorial Day classics at Indianapolis, he was given a kiss by ROSINA ROBESON, now a famous movie star. Riding down French Market Street to the local Kroger Store, I was very much amazed to learn that JOE BECK,' who had married VONDA JONES, now managed this and 456 other Kroger Stores. We then continued to Norman's borne in 'Garden District. After dining I suggested that we go to the concert where two famous Metropolitan Opera stars, PAT CARITHERS, pianist, and BETTY ROHL, soloist, were starred in a musical production. Although Betty had been engaged to CHARLES ADAMS, who plays professional baseball with the New York Yankees., she now seems to favor the oil-magnate, EDGAR RAY WILDERMAN, with his dirty millions. Going to the 500 Club , we found JOE FLOYD conducting a jazz band. Then the Mistress of Ceremonies, NINA MARTIN, announced that the famous movie star, MIGAX GENTRY, whose latest film, Jolson Did It Again , was playing there, would sing ammy'. At the Old Absinthe House we found ROLLAN JONES and his business associate LOIS ROBERTS. These two charming people are now playing Fibber McGee and Molly on the television station YUC located in the thriving metropolis of Fort Branch. They said that BOB PHILLIPS was now Chief Television Engineer at YUC. Phyllis said that BONNIE BLUM had married a certain professional basketball player, and was living in New York City near the Madison Square Gardens. MARY LU MILLER succeeded in becoming a Laboratory Technician but lost ROGER BORDERS. Roger, who wanted to be the friendly undertaker, became Borders the Barber, now giving close shaves in New York City. JEAN SHEPARD is now a Missionary to China and MARILYN BELL seems quite happy as a nurse in the New York General Hospital. JOE FRENCH is looking for young men interested in a career of swabbing the decks of the ship U.S.S. Missouri, which he now commands. Let's hope it doesn't go aground again. I was very much shocked but pleased to learn that MEL BURGER had settled down to become one of the finest priests in this country. KENNETH CARTER is still at Purdue. No, he isn't a student, he's a Professor of Psychology. GARLAND WILHITE, who also is at Purdue, is coaching the basketball team which has established a iine record, undefeated no less. J UANITA DILBECK now teaches Social Studies at Fort Branch High School, taking Mr. Weavers position after his retirement. The students seem to like this arrangement very we . . - SUE TRIBLE and SHIRLEY WOODS, both Interior Decorators, are now redecorat- ing the home of the United Nations at Lake Success. KENNETH HOLZMEYER is the United States Consul to Russia. LUCILE KUHNS gained recognition by becoming the first woman Governor of Indiana. The next morning the weather cleared and I was again on my way to Brazil, happy to have heard from my former classmates. South America take it away! EARL DORSAM and PHYLLIS BEASLEY. 15
