I bought a paper and began glancing through it as I headed for a look at the old school. One article headed Mayor of Somerville Be- comes Fatherf' interested me when I discovered the mayor's wife is RUTH REXING, of course you know the mayor. Another article an- nounced that DON IVALLACE, now a doctor is setting up practice in Fort Branch. Don is a confirmed bachelor and raises dogs for a hobby. In the entertainment section I saw an announcement of a professional basketball game. The line-up included RAY WILLIAMSON, KEN- NETH JACKSON and HAROLD GWALTNEY. The Metropolitan Opera House is featuring MARY ANN BAYER, pianist and NORMA BOYLE, soloist. In the advertisement section I noticed the Snack Bar with PHYLLIS FOUGNIES REED and JEAN REED FOUGNIES as proprietors. Kruse's Beauty Shoppe is owned and operated by BETTY KRUSE. I closed my newspaper and headed into the old school, now a mag- nificent building. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that VIOLA IWEISS is principal, MARY ANN BLOCK is an English teacher and BERNADINE MCINTIRE is teaching science. As I entered the Home Economics Department I found the teacher is ELEAN OR DOUGLAS. Eleanor and I entered into conversation and I found that she was teaching until a certain person returns from Brazil and pops the ques- tion. She told me that EVELYN SCHUESSLER, ROBERTA REEVES, PIIYLLIS WOODS a11d ROVELLA CARTER are happily married and proud mothers. She said that MARJORIE LOU GRAY and MARY LOU BORDERS are touring the country as professional tennis stars. JACK McCAR'TY is VVorld's Champion IVrestler and his sister .PAULINE MCCARTY is a famous ballet dancer. If you 've been as starved for news of your old classmates as I have for the last ten years in Brazil, I know you'll welcome this letter. I hope you 'll understand when I ask you to accept my resignation. I've found my class mates so happy that I never wa11t to leave them again and I also have to make up for those lost years with a certain Home Economics teacher. Good luck and best wishes. glass roplzecy Fort Branch, Indiana May 8, 1958 Mr. Carol Heldt, President Standard Oil Company New York 20, New York Dear Carol: Well, after ten years in Brazil as a buyer for the Standard Oil Com- pany I have returned to Fort Branch, the scene of your happy school days. You 'd be surprised how it has changed. Tl1e first thing I noticed as I stepped off the train was a beautiful new depot. I was so astounded that I thought I had made a mistake. As the red-cap approached I saw that it was none other than ALAN HICKROD, our former classmate. Alan showed me around the building and told me that the plans were drawn by JAMES BARRETT, now an architect and construction was under the supervision of ROBERT LOCKHART, a famous engineer. After leaving Alan, I was struck by the brilliance of a large neon sign reading LOGAN'S . Upon entering, I discovered a beautiful night-club on the site of McCormick's Cafe owned by our classmate ROBERT NEUFELDER. Bob told me that he is happily married to RUBY HAMILTON. Star performers in his Hoor show include MILLIE MENY, LOIS RIDDLE, WANDA SILKEY and ALINE McILREE. After leaving Logan 's I passed a news-stand' and instantly stopped because the clerk was KENNETH ROMERSHAUSEN. Romeo told me the news of many of our rural classmates. NORMAN THOMPSON and ARNOLD MICHEL are 11ow world-famous hybred corn raisers. KENNETH WEBER, married an Evansville girl, and is a large stock man. He supplies live stock to the Elper's Packing Company, successors to Emge's, and of course the president is DONALD ELPERS. JEAN ROHL entered nurses training and plans to make a career of it. FLOYD SILKEY has left the farm and now has a famous hill-billy band. His chief songstress is BETTY BEADLE. Included in the floor show are JACK BOREN, EDDIE BALES and BOB SIDES, as the Three Terrific Terrifying Tumblers.
