H1 to CLASS HISTORY In the fall of 25 a group of Freshles wnth green caps and a green and whlte banner grasped the rope and started the chmb of the hugh school hrll In our lead was Mr Merchant and Mlss Welab golng before to help us over the rough places Mable M1 Kee was our banner bearer and followed our leaders To reheve the monotony of the chmb we had two parties x Vxlentme party and a welner roast After each of these we plodded on getting a httle hlgher each day untll at the end of the year we stopped for a short rest In the fall of 26 we agam took up our rope to chmb the hull We discarded our green caps for we were sllly Sophomores We kept our green and white banner and selected Lxrl Brumfleld as our banner bearer MISS Webla was our leader We were all growlng a wee but tlred of the regular chmb so we gave a Hallowe en party We chmbed on wlth more ferxor after thls so since It seemed to gxve us such vlm for work we had a welner roast when nearing our goal When we came to a safe place we camped for we needed the rest before takmg up our ropes agaln Fall of 77 rolled around and we found we had gamed a member I-Ie picked up the rope with us and again we started upward lVIable McKee was selected to bear our green and whlte banner thls year and our leaders were Miss Webb and Mr Smith The goal seemed nearer than lt had ever been before although It was stall dxstant We were anxlous to progress upward but we stopped for a December party and a welner roast and then went upward To rcheve our tired minds wlth somethmg different we put on a play Cyclone Sally and then gave those who had reached the goal a banquet We were near our restmg place for the year but we never faltered but struggled to reach this pornt Tlred but hopeful we dropped the rope to rest awhile Rose and cream our b anntr wt took up our rope and with Mr I-Iemmer as leader and Mable as bxnner bearer xgaln we started on the last lap of our journey We were anxtous to reach the top to see what awaited us on the other side but we could not reach It sooner by hurrying so to help us be patient we had a series of parties published a class book and gave a play The Ifnd of the Lane which seemed very approprlate for the lxst year of our Journey up Hugh School I-hll The ,Iumors llIIT1lJlIlg behrnd us gave us a banquet on April Z2 and on April the 25th wrth a shout of uctory we reached the Hllltop and gazed on the world beyond with dum eyes The chmb had been hard and the rocks rugged yet By thrs slgn we con quered IVICIVIXXIX and we regretted to leave behmd us what had been such a struggle to obtam We gamed two ln our number but lost more some could not keep up wrth the pace and let go the rope and shd back to other classes or met the cold world without gammg the goal Taklng our dxplomas we are passlng on to struggle up a mountaln alone the top of which ls Success As on the hull some may fall back but agann I think By this slgn we conquer IVICIVIXYIX Page Fxftcen - , . 1 7 ., . - n Y L , K - I '1 A ' , 1 ' , . H1 to CLASS PROPHFCY CC ontinuedl It was closing time so ohn Lawrence asked us to go home with him for dinner We accepted and he called Lawrence and gave him the address and told him to be there also We wondered where we were going to dine At ohnnys club w guessed He drove up in front of a dear little bungalow ind said that was his castle A familiar looking girl was standing in the door and as we approached the porch we got the shock of our lives for who should it be but Ihelma Iwpperson formerly We had dinner and sat a long time tilklng ohn Lawrence said that Carl and Angelyn had split up after being eng aged five years and Carl was working hard on a chemical experiment to forget himself I xsked xbout Angelyn but the question was avoided and Thelma suggested that we go to a show We went to a very good theatre and the picture was enjoyable but I could not get interested in the vaudeville after the first part for it was an acrobatic act and I was suit the lady was Angelyn that we go around to the stage door we did so and met the acrobatlc lady Sure enough it was Angelyn' She said that after she broke her engxgement with Carl she decided to take up vaudeville at which she had been rather successful Having had sufficient excitement for one dry we bxde johnny and Thelma good bye and went to a hotel to spend the night dhe matron came to meet us and who should it be but Clga Berger She said she had a very good position and that Marie Sollman had a similar position in Boston The next morning we went to Boston to see lVlar1e We stayed there until noon and then went to a girls school that Marie told us xbout There we found Paulean Reynolds She was a physical trainer and was loved by all of her pupils She told us she had just had a letter from Irma who was in Europe singing in an opera and that the unusual quality of her voice was creating much excitement We left Paulean and started out again in the plane This time we went south west and the first thing we knew Lawrence landed the plane in Emge s field and bade us visit around while he went home Alma remarked that she had not heard from her cousin for quite a while so we called her home Her mother informed us that she was llvmg ln Haubstadt We caught a traction and went to that village After getting information from a small boy we found the house Lillian was at Fern s house and we learned that she lived next door They were both married Ferns husband owned a garage which we learned to be Weis and Lillian s husband was a valuable man at Emges We could not stay long with the girls as we must find some more of our classmates so we bade them adleu and started back to Ft Branch The next day we again started out We went east of town Stopping at a farm on the road to get some water we discovered that Geraldine lVIcCarty lived there but it was Geraldine McCarty no longer as she like others of our class mates had changed her name We talked to her a long time learning that Walter had taken over the Michel farm after a college course in agriculture and was hiving great success with Page Seventeen 19 29 .
