ILLH C lL LUC Bog s Basket Ball On a certun Wednesday Ill the lrst weak of Septembe Zo our new coach Mr Z lVl Harbstrert wrote this notlce on th boards ln the assembhes All those Interested rn playmg basket bull report ln the laboratory at 4 P 'Vl ln response to this ummons there were about twenty frve prospectrve basket ball players gathered ln the laboratory that ewemng Out of this number there were four lettermen Showers Symonds Purcell and Carter For two or three weeks the whole squad that had reported was used ln the practice sessions but as tlme for our frrst game drew near the knlfe began to be wielded and lVlr Harbstrert drd not get through carvmg untll there were only twelve men left on the string These four letter men 1nd Boren Wxrren Lalb Harmon En lush DeLong Hoar and Harxey For this string of twelxe players there was a schedule of twenty hard games and scheduled games and playing ln the finals at the County Tournament Our HI'St game was wrth Rockport and the startlng llneup was Purcell and Symonds forwards Showers center Warren and Boren guards wlth Lalb Harmon and Eng lrsh as forward subs and DeLong as center sub and Carter Hoar and Harvey as guard subs Thls hneup was used untll CllTlStlHHS when Purcell dropped off the squad and Lalb took his forward posltlon From Christmas untll nearly the end of the se xson the combmatlon of Symonds and Lalb was used at the forward positron but Symonds dropped otf the squad just before the Sectlonal Tournament and then Laxb and Harmon held the forward posltlons Out of the twelve that started the season seven were Freshmen These Freshmen have shown that they know what a basket ball w as made for and I aduse other schools ln the County to take notlce of our team when these boys get going for the next three years In our schedule we have had many hard close games but rn all these games the best of sportsmanship was shown by both teams and we do not have any hard feelings for any man on any team and hope that none have any against us In our round of games thls year we have defeated Rockport Francisco Hazleton Elberfeld Patoka Princeton asper Petersburg Poseyvllle and Mt Vernon We have been defeated by Tell Cnty l-laubstadt lVlt Olympus Huntmgburg Cynthlana Owensvllle PlnlI'tVlll6 Qakland City Boonville and Bosse Evansvllle In the Lounty Tournament we defeated Nlackey and Hazleton and played th fmal game with Haubstadt whreh we lost by two pomts In the bectlonal we were defeated by Hazleton by two pomts a team we had defeated twlce before once by one point and once by three polnts So ended the Basket ball season of l926 and l927 GLEN CARTER agt Twenty One T ly-Se1'nofT'cnly-S' n Y , r g ' ' f if ' ' r .. 4 - c ' .
