Kindergarten, 1947 Under the patient direction of Mrs. Winn we take our first faltering steps up the awesome ladder of learning. The newness and the strangeness wears OH' as the days pass and we learn each other's first names. We take naps on little blankets and don our smocks to proudly paint our First masterpieces. First Grade, 1948 We are trying our best to learn to read, to draw a house, to print our names, to count to one hundred, and to raise our hands when we want to talk. We get to be in the big annual Christmas Play, The Toy Shop. We appear as clowns, tin soldiers, a train, and penquins. Wayne Sousa, David Lotten, and Lloyd Dahl are three of the seven dwarfs. We are very important. Second Grade, 1949 Having spent two whole years at school we are beginning to feel very much at home. Richard Petersen, Steve Vaughn, and Bob Clark have distinguished themselves by hanging Jimmy Fairall on a cloakroom hook. Poor Cowboy Billy Hohman made the mistake of taking off his beautiful cowboy boots at school. It took the teacher to get them back on. Strains of Bossy Cow', and 'Tm a Little Teapotn are sung to the key of Mrs. Hornzee's pitchpipe. Third Grade, 1950 We have moved up the hall and are studying Indians and learning our times tables. Everyone waits for recess to play the exciting new catching and kissing game. Judy Luoma is queen of our May Day Pageant, complete with Maypoles and dancing. Fourth grade fiesta.
