The Longhorns moved on to post season play after blasting the Cascade Badgers in a stunning performance outscoring them 23-0. The win moved the Longhorns into the play- |offs to face the Shelby Coyotes. Lady Longhorns Finish With Win The Lady Longhorn basketball team defeated the Harlem Wildcats on Saturday. The final score was 61-53. They ladies played a well ex- ecuted offensive game, they came out ready to win and did everything in their power to attain that goal. The Longhorns never lost the lead from the beginning of the game. Missy LaBarre captured player of the week with her con- sistency and 100 percent serving average. Because of the cold spell, February 9 started a long five match weekend. Simms handed the Longhorns a loss Thursday night 15-3, 15-10, Friday an exciting match-up with Choteau had Fort Benton with a disappointing loss 7-15, 15-6, 12-5. Also losing 15-6, 15-« to top ranked undefeated Conrad. The last of the five match weekend in Chinook had one bright spot with the Longhorns defeating Shelby in one game 15-13, however, losii he other two games up Cut Bank c° % ton in 'm k u a Bsiasm and Rnewon her player l iary 19 the Longhorns honored two graduating seniors, Nancy Worrall and Kristi O’Connor. “These two young ladies add a bun- dle of humor, motivation and dedica- tion to our team!” says coach Sam- son. “They exemplify all that an athlete should be, they set an ex- cellent example for our underclassmen. I am very proud to have worked with Nancy and Kristi, we will miss them dearly next year.” Unfortunately Fort Benton couldn’t come away with a win that night. They lost to Chester 15-11, 15-10. Two disappointing losses against Simms and Fairfield 7-17, 5-17 and 5-15,3-15, did not keep the Longhorns down. They came back tough the following weekend, however, defeating Harlem 15-0, 15-12. Eloff served an incredible straight points against Harlem. While Erica Andreasen finished off the season taking player of the week for her ag- gressive hitting attack. Kristi O’Connor was also chosen honorable mention for the all- conference team. %itCH 8. 1989 Volleyball Season Ends The Fort Benton Longhorn volleyball team finished their three months season this past weekend as Fort Benton hosted the Gass B Nor- thern Division Volleyball Tourna- ment. The Longhorns had two tough matches Friday that put them out of tournament action. The Choteau Bulldogs, a small but enthusiastic team sneaked out a very hard fought victory over Fort Benton 15-11,15-11. The Longhorns displayed outstan- ding teamwork and aggressiveness. The fourth place Malta M-ettes were Fort Benton’s next opponent. Although the Longhorns played superb volleyball, they couldn’t come away with a win, as they lost 15-11, 15-«. “I felt the girls played two outstanding games at the tourna- ment. Band Receives Superior Festival Rating The Music Department at F.B.H.S. had an excellent showing last weekend at the district music festival in Great Falls. On Friday in- dividual solos and ensembles perfor- mend throughout the day. They came home with seven superior (I) ratings and eight excellent (II) ratings. The girls faced defeat only once the whole season. Unfortunately, the competition was not up to par and the shorthorns continually won by a wide margin. They ended their outstanding season with a K-1 record. In addition, they performed 'outstanding at the tournament beating Malta 46-9 and Havre 45-28. The team served for an impressive season average of 82 percent. Unfortunately, the 7th grade did not have a tournament to end their season. The 8th grade, however, compiled a 9-11 record, and an 81% serving average. For the season ending tournament. Coach Schoonover split the 8th grade into two teams.
