Girls And Boys State 1978 Girls Staters Left to Right: Alternate Sherry Shaw, Delegates Marilyn Ewen and Tammi Wigger; Alternate Tamee Brodock MONTANA GIRLS STATl Girls State is held in Helena, Montana during June. Two delegates and two alternates are chosen from the junior class. The purpose of Girls State is to learn how city and state governments function by actually acting out the functions. For two days of the session, you visit the Capitol and are sworn into your elected offices. It is a fun and learning experience. From the junior class, five delegates are chosen to attend Boys State in Dillon, Montana. It is held during June for a week. You learn how city, county and state governments function by imitating their jobs.
