Carrie Jacobs Bond Life is made sweet because of friends we have made, And the things which in common we share. We want to live on not because of ourselves, But because of the people who care It's in giving and doing for somebody else On that all life's splendor depends And the joys's of this life, When you've summed it all up, Are found in the making of friends Grace Walter Clarke 3 So let's keep the ship-a-sailing. Friendship never fails Though the course prove rough and stormy It will weather all gales. Evelyn Bingaman 5 When my brothers speak a word of praise... My wavering will to aid. .. I ask if ever their long, long ways.. . My words have brighter made. .. And to my heart 1 bring again... This eager, earnest plea... Make me a friend to as many men... As have been good friends to me. Samuel H. Brown I ' ‘Things make you happy Things make you sad Take things as they come and try to be glad Flash a broad smile for another hard mile and even though you may not always win ensure to the end and as long as there is one slim chance, there is hope .1' The riders in a race do not stop short when they reach the goal. There is a little finishing canter before coming to a standstill. There is time to hear the kind voice of friends and to say to one's self: ' 'The work is done.'' But just as one says that, the answer comes: ' 'The race is over, but the work is never done while the power to work remains.'' The canter that brings you to a standstill need not be only coming to rest. It cannot be, while you still live. For to live is to function. Accomplishments The 1978-79 Senior High Student Council worked very hard. Their biggest accomplishment was to get the team's scheduling changed for Homecoming, so that everyone will be home for the activities. Besides Homecoming, they were in charge of the Christmas party, featuring a movie. In the spring, they planned and carried off Longhorn Day, with clean-up, games, B-painting and lunch. This years members are quite active, with one holding a district office and one going to National Convention this summer. This years council had a good time and hopefully served the students of F.B.H.S. well. They would like to thank Mr. Jovanovich for sticking with them and helping so much. 15 Middle School Student Council Left to Right: Mr. Herman-sponsor, Kim Gillen, Bob Nelson, Maureen Dailey, Scott Meissner, seated-Marc Cappis, Aric Curtiss. Two delegates and two alternates are chosen from the junior class. The purpose of Girls State is to learn how city and state governments function by actually acting out the functions. For two days of the session, you visit the Capitol and are sworn into your elected offices. It is a fun and learning experience. From the junior class, five delegates are chosen to attend Boys State in Dillon, Montana. It is held during June for a week. You learn how city, county and state governments function by imitating their jobs. There are approximately 500 boys that attend. •Ml Q Boys State Delegates Left to right: Brian Merger Sid Scott, Joe Blanchard, Daryl Creek, Not pictured: Ken Ritland MONTANA 20 HAAS ASSOCIM MP. p. o. A friend is someone who says the most without using words. He can look at you in silence and understand every mood and feeling, and mostly, a friend helps you to understand yourself. He is always there when you need him, even if he isn' t around. Just the memory and the thought, of the treasures shared, can get us through the worst. A friend becomes a part of you, and when that friend should leave, whether for a long time or just a few days, that part of you, that is him, will get you through everything. And to me Ken was more than that kind of a friend. Everything I do Echoes with laughter And the voice of you. You're on every comer, Every turn and twist, Every old familiar spot Whispers how you're missed. Everywhere I go There are lasting memories Dancing in a row, Silhouette and shadow of your form and face substance and reality Everywhere displace. -Rhonda Stovall SHARE LOVE TODAY Today is the day you have to share; To tell another how much you care. Tomorrow's not always another day; If one is taken along the way. Today, tell each one That is near; You share their love, their joy, their cheer. Today show each other you care; Tomorrow may be too late to share. Now is the moment we have to live in; This moment is really, all that is given. So please know within how much I care; Even though I'm awkward in trying to share . .. Ken Lundy Oh, i miss you How I miss you Ken! There's a strange, sad silence Whem ever you are friend. Just as tho the ordinary, Daily things I do Wait with me, expectant, For a word from you. Miss you, Miss you ! Nothing now seems true, Only that t'was Heaven Just to be with you. -Keith Lippert -Greg Shaw Hey ... ! I really do love you. FRIEND A friend is one who needs us and one whom we need. Around us may be many whose companionship we enjoy, but were they suddenly to drop out of their places there would be no soreness, no sense of deprivation, no lack of comfort. We do not need them, neither do they need us. A friend is one to whom we cling, though many leagues of space separate us. Though days pass with no sight of his face of word from his pen, we know our friend loves us and that when we meet again we will be on the same old terms: we shall begin where we left off. A friend is one in whom we can confide. The secret chambers of our soul open to his touch on the latch. Thousands imagine their friends are numbered by scores, but if subjected to those tests every one of them would fall into the great sea of common humanity. 41 42 Tina Louise Seright Judy L.
