The future projects include a constitution change which would involve revising the preamble to our constitution. We are also planning on having a student ex- change program with C.M.R. , where they would visit our school and we would visit theres. This would show us how a larger school operates. We have also one major project left, that being Longhorn Day. Longhorn Day always takes a large amount of planning and we have fun times in store for all. We would also like to make this a memorable day, where all our plans turn out. In closing, I would like to say, I've tried my best, but sometimes that wasn't enough and without my council associates, I wouldn't have made it through this year. It has been great serv- ing the school and presiding over the student council. Sincerely, Brice Russell, Pres. Top left to right. S.: This past year, as Editor of the 1978 yearbook has been quite a challenging experience. There have been many ups and downs, but I have learned a great deal, and if I had the chance to do it again, I would. I was lucky to have such a diligent, hard working crew. I owe them a great deal of thanks, because without them, this book would not have been possible. A special thanks to Mr. Jones for be- ing so understanding in the worst of situations. The Pioneer Staff is lucky to have such a dedicated sponsor. I hope that this book will hold special memories for you, as it will for me. I would like to wish the best of luck to the staff mem- bers in the coming years. God Bless You. Elaine Chamberlain Cannon Report Staff Cannon Report Staff, Pictured left to right. Both Boys and Girls State is held in June, and it lasts for one week. During this week, the boys and girls learn about how state, city, and county government operates. This is done by setting up governments, nominating representatives, holding elec- tions and campaigns, and by experiencing the whole idea of it. The end result is an increased knowledge about what and how our government is set up and run. They've proven that with a little effort, a great deal of enthusiasm can be brought out at our athletic events. This year the cheerleaders have participated in making signs, putting on a number of pep ralleys, setting up and participating in spirit week, for both Homecoming and Divisional Basketball Tournaments, decorating lockers for Football, Basketball, and Wrestling. This takes a tremendous amount of work and it is appreciated. Thanks girls, you did a GREAT job. Sincerely, F.B.H.S. Like winding paths that lead through little dells, Old friendships are well-worn, but always sweet; And often thoughts go drifting back once more To well-known spots where old friends used to meet. Like flowers pressed in the pages of a book, Old friendships are well-guarded on the way; Within fond hearts, where nothing can destroy, Old friendships live forever and a day. 54 A dministra tors 1 Mr. Dave Meissner: High School Principal W y 1 e y G o o d Mr. Ray Grande: Middle School Principal Not Pictured: George Streit, Sharon Good, Jon West V i c k y M o r g e r o o o a r 55 E 1 e m e n t a r y Beverly Best Resource Room Betty Booth Second Grade F.J. The Middle School punch serv- ers were Rona Laubach, Loiraine Ayers, Lesley Willson, Ida Croft, Shannon Decker, and Kelly Mc- Keever. 93 i Oregon Coast Field Trip 94 The last week of April, 22-29, was the scene of the Advanced Biology and Physics Oregon Coast trip, a seldom experienced ad- venture. They visited a wide range of sights, from the Oregon shores investigating for marine wildlife to the University of Oregon's campus. Along with the sights, some twenty-eight high school students got to cook, clean-up and set up tents, not to mention the together- ness which was felt by the end of the trip. The chaperones were: Mrs. Davison, Mrs. Lippert, Mr. and Mrs. Blanchard, Mr. and Mrs. Kindzerski and Mr. Lepley. 95 D a y % Another year, another Longhorn Day. Wednesday, May 10th was the date this year. The day began with the usual clean-up. The Seniors cleaned the football field and the bleechers, while the Juniors picked up the trash around the TGI Building. The Freshman Painted the B . After clean-up, everyone ate lunch, which was prepared by die Student Council. After lunch, grades 9-12 went up to the baseball diamond, where a series of games were played. Dedicated To: The Senior Class-1978 A TIME FOR US Our school life started August 29th, 1966, In Mrs. Somkess's class, David Roddy played the Grinch. Engine, engine, number nine, was played in the first grade wing, And the teachers in the winter, told us to keep our tongues off the monkey bar thing. The playground was graveled from one end to the other, And on days we felt like staying in, we got a note from mother. Mrs. Steven's field trips were highlights of each year, Also book clubs, around the world, and playing smear the queer . Mini-courses taught us much with the tree farm and all, Our over-night trip to Shonkin was really quite a ball. Our 5th grade music in the band is really much delayed. Why, just the other night at the concert, the same Grandfathers Clock was being played. We're something in the dramatics field within our 6th grade year. To think that Roger's and Hammerstein looked to us for their career. We stepped out of elementary with A Good Man Charlie Brown , Instead of years lasting longer, they started to go down. We proudly started high school with ambition and a smile, The four long years expected, has lasted but a while. The Glacier field trip as freshman, turned out so very well, But then in a few short months came FIRE AT MELROE, RUN LIKE ...... Dances got us going from our leisure and our rest, Why, to think at one of them, Mar and Mike won the kissing contest. The fashions and the fads have changed through Fort Benton High, Sandy wore a head band, and Peg's mini-skirts made you cry. The community has changed, with new buildings here and there. The bank, the bleachers, and Sunrise Bluff, but the Pizza Hut is bare! Our last year of school opened wide, with senior privileges too! But what lay ahead our last 9 months we didn't have a clue. The new thing was hall passes, as there are in every school, The hall would echo, I'm gonna catch kids! Boy he thought he was cool. Armice on the Oregon trip, woofed his cookies on the ground, But then along came Prom night and Art hit Bear the hound. Lenny, Ernie, Poddy and Pade are some of the senior nicknames, But the things that lay behind them, are found within our games. The weigh station, fights in the park and changing the B were fun, But now that's all behind us, and a new life has begun! Names To The Baby Pictures And Class Nicknames 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Class of '78 First To Spend Sneak Day In Fort Benton The Class of 78 is proud to announce their wonderful experience of spending Sneak Day in Fort Benton. We aren't knocking Fort Benton or anything, because how else were we to find out how much fun it would be to spend hour after hour playing games in the Bomb Shelter, unless we tried it. The original plans wfere to go to Blanchard's bottom, but as luck would have it, it rained. We did make it down, and tried to have fun around the rain, but it didn't want to stop. Thanks to Mrs. Shaw for keeping the fire going. At least we kept warm. After taking a vote to go to the Bomb Shelter, we had to get out, and without Marty, the bus wouldn't of made it up the hill. Thanks to the rest of the class for not letting Beach try it. The day wasn't a total loss, because besides Lisa learning how to play Twister, Lila learned how to do the Jitter Bug, and Elaine learned how to bowl gutter balls. Both lunch and dinner were catered to us at the Bomb Shelter, along with live entertainment from Bitterroot, and Jim Bramlette. After Jim's outstanding solo, ' 'Good Hearted Woman'', we were afraid he would be leaving for Hollywood, but thanks to his level headedness, he stuck around to graduate first. (Has anyone seen Jim lately?) Sneak Day came to a close with one MAD BOY .... Brice Russell. It isn't everyday that Elaine gets to drench the Student Body President. 1 am sure he is the type to forgive and forget, but just in case, always keep a watch over your shoulder Elaine. High school is full of memories, and this is one thing that the Senior Class of '78 will not forget. We could not of had more fun, no matter where we would have went, because just being together, sharing each others happiness was enough. The Commencement Cere- mony took place Sunday evening at 7:30, out on the Football Field. This was the first time in years that graduation could be held out- doors. The wind bewl a little, but overall, it was a fairly nice evening. Mr. William Hoppes, a former Superintendent of the Fort Benton School Systems, was the guest speaker. A special thanks to him for coming all the way from Washington to speak for us. We appreciate your coming, and we enjoyed your speech. After everyone received their diplomas, something different was done. This was, the band played the school song, while the seniors clapped along and sang the words. 105 Terry Lee Allen Denise Lynn Bom gar dner Rodney Leroy Briese Bonnie Mae Ary Cheryl Rae Braker Michael Carlstrom James Michael Dupree Matthew Jerome Davison John Wilton Cornell Robert William Fisher 107 Jenny L.
