7. 6 16 76 DEMONSTRATORS BATTLE POLICE — Part of a crowd of 10,000 black high school students clash with po- lice in Soweto, South Africa after the stu- dents protested the mandatory use of the Afrikaans language in the schools. As ri- oting spread, the pupils sang ‘God Bless Africa and waved their fists shouting Power. 8. 7 29 76 THE JENNER RUSH — Bruce Jenner of the United States rushes to the finish line to place first in the fourth heat of the 400-meter run of the Olympic de- cathlon competition at the Montreal Olympic Stadium. Later in the year Jen- ner was named Male Athlete of the Year by the Associated Press. 9. 4 25 76 KISSINGER IN KENYA — Secre- tary of State Henry Kissinger and Kenya President Jomo Kenyatta are flanked by costumed dancers who performed at the State House in Nakura in honor of Kis- singer’s visit. During Kissingers two- week tour of black Africa, both dignitaries affirmed cooperation between their coun- tries. 10. 9 30 76 CHINESE MOURN MAO — Com- manders and fighters of the Chinese Peo- ple’s Liberation Army, with boundless profound proletarian feelings, pay last re- spects to the remains of Mao. their most esteemed and beloved leader. 11. 8 4 76 JUNKYARD RIVER — The Big Thompson River looks like a junkyard in this picture taken in Drake, Colo. Three cars in the foreground and a wrecked house on the remains of a bridge over the river are leftover signs of the heavy flood damage inflicted on the tiny town by the weekend flash flood. 12. 9 1 76 INSPECTION — Kathryn Wildey. left, of Spokane, Wash., and Cheryl Swartz of Saginaw, Mich., stand at atten- tion as they are inspected along with male members of the Cadet Corps. The women are cadets at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., and were participat- ing in their first overnight bivouac. Cicero Class Colors Light Blue and Metalic Blue Homecoming Homecoming week always seems to hold an extra excitement to the ordinary. The ac- tivities of spirit days during the week in- cluded: Wednesday, clash day , Thursday, farmer day , and the Fifties on Friday. The theme this year was TV Shows . On Thursday evening at 7:30p.m., the variety show was held, with lots of laughter. The evening climaxed with the snake dance and bon fire. The Homecoming day schedule started on Friday with a pep rally during seventh period on the football field, at which time the Homecoming Princesses and Queen were crowned. The parade began at 5:30 p.m. with bands, floats, homecoming roy- alty and candidates, students, business and community exhibits. The Homecoming game opened at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening with the Fort Benton Longhorns opposing the Cut Bank Wolves. Although the Longhorns were defeated 17- 14, the game was the longest in our his- tory with five overtimes, and we knew we'd put up a good fight. 32 1. standing at attention 2. a farmer on farmer day 3 . exhibits in the parade 4. a group of ballerinas 5 . the bon fire 6. a tense moment Homecoming Senior Candidates Leslie Appleby Richie Walker Jackie Shaw Denise Janssen Sophomore Candidates Tony Frieling Deb Stashi Nikki McKeever Marilyn Ewen Royalty Denise Janssen Peggy Pearson Marilyn Ewen Leisa Granger Junior Candidates Peggy Pearson Betty Madsen Linda Hampton Sandy Lippert Freshmen Candidates Leisa Granger Rhonda Stovall Rae Lyn Marcussen Lana Fultz 33 Homecoming 34 Homecoming Homecoming Sports Girl’s 36 Varsity Team: Seated; Sandy Lippert, Leslie Appleby, Mary Striet, Debbie Stashi. These five outstanding young men left for Dillion at 6:30 A .M . to spend a week learning about governmental pro- cedure on the city, county, and state levels. These future leaders of tomorrow namely, Matthew Sherwood Trott, Dan Stovall (622-3791), Bruce Ritter, Billy Lepley, and Rick Jackson had a great time learning and making friends with other fine men from around the state. Matt Trott Girl’s State Girl's State Delegate: Denise Janssen Alternate: Richie Walker. I was sponsored as a delegate to the Montana Girl's State Convention by the American Legion Auxiliary. There, girls from all parts of the State met and learned about the three levels of state government. We heard speakers (such as Max Baucus), and also got the opportunity to perform actual government functions. I was elected as an Associate Supreme Court Justice and we tried an actual 1974 child custody case presented by the Girl's Nation delegates. (Our decision was the same as that of the real Supreme Court!) It was a great learning experi- ence, and also loads of fun! 95 Denise Janssen Longhorn Day Have a Hamburger Your Way at Longhorn Day Prom Royalty: Jennifer Sanford-Queen, Brent Crawford-King, Bill Lepley-Sr Prince, Pam Powell-Sr. Princess, Lila Stewart-Jr. Princess, Jim Bramlette-Jr. Prince, Toni Frielinq- Soph. Times of Time_passes much too quickly when we count the times that were....... There's too many remember when 's when speaking of playground fun; catch-'em, kiss 'em and smear the queer. There's too much laughter when recalling elementary episodes, teachers with rulers, fists and dark red hair. There's too much wonder when trying to explain sixth grade marriages and high school loves that died too fast. Our Life There are too many regrets over personality conflicts and grudges that came quickly but lasted too long. There was too much innocence in who we chose as friends and those we cast off. .....It's too bad that the bonds we now form, tying us to some, apart from others, are only a now thing to look back on_____ only hoping to derive a memory that brings a smile even when pondering on the mistakes. and talk of poems and prayers and promises and things that we believe in how sweet it is to love someone how right it is to care how long it’s been since yesterday what about tomorrow and what about our dreams and all the memories we share?
