Somebody, sometimes, works. How on earth do I ever put up with him? Concentration?! ! Everyone desires at least one chance. School couldn't be easier! Steve kills a little time with some girl watching. As the day closes, the mind becomes weary. Whistling away another Publications class. Some work, some watch. Go Dave! Its hard work but Bill will do anything to get out of class. 52 American History? Top row left to right: Mrs. Taylor, Coach; C. Lambert, M. Hankins, C. Albers, L. Trott. Bottom row left to right: D. Miller, Ass't. Coach J. Herman. Coach Dave Miller Our season was highlighted this year by the hard-running of all-American (honorable mention), all conference fullback Dennis Wethem and the block- ing and defensive tackle play of all- conference Stuart Elliott. As first year head football coach, I expected more of the team than we produced, but key injuries hampered us plus a tie with Shelby early in the season which defi- nitely hurt our attitude. I felt we must instill more desire and a better winning attitude in order to overcome lame excuses for a mediocre season (4-3-1). I think a rededication to the Longhorn spirit of winning and the right amount of leadership by our junior letterman could produce a successful season next year. Front row 1. to r.-K. Kelley, M. Varsity Basketball I would like to congratulate the boys on the Varsity Squad for a job well done. They made a good showing in both the District and Divisional tournaments and with a little hot shooting could have made it to the top. True, we did not get out of the Divisional but I feel the boys displayed desire and the want to win in all of the games. They acted like mature young men and had the ability to suffer defeat. Winning is some- thing that a coach always strives for but other things would have to be sought for also. What I mean by this is trying to teach the team members something that will help them later in their lives. From the letters we got from people in the tournament towns gave me satifaction that you normally don't The school can always look back and say wait until next year but Seniors you should feel proud the showing you made this year and Juniors and Sophomores you can say I'll do better in my remaining year or years. With six returning lettermen, it looks very bright next year if the team and student body can create and maintain an attitude the team developed the latter ialf of the 70-71 basketball season. 60 Coach Flanagan Left to right- Janice Morrow Carla Meeks Karen Gertson Kerry Anderson Marsha Robinson varsity Cheerleaders j-v Top- Jenny Gertson Debbie Raunig Bottom- Venetta Morger Patty Herbold Sr. Forward- Dennis Lusin Sr. Center- Stu Elliott Jr. Forward- John Lepley Varsity Allstars SCORE BOARD Opponent WE THEY Simms 66 39 Big Sandy 64 36 Malta 66 91 Chester 67 32 Chinook 76 40 Harlem 51 52 (ot) Cascade 68 59 Simms 61 60 Big Sandy 64 55 Malta 44 78 Chester 74 43 Chinook 66 57 Harlem 48 40 Cascade 55 75 2nd Place Conference 10-4 DISTRICT TOURNEY Chinook 63 62 (ot) Harlem 58 52 Malta 39 78 2nd place 2-1 Divisional Tourney Choteau 55 50 Shelby 63 77 Conrad 46 53 5th Place Divisional 1-2 62 Front- Ron Bailey, Monty Meeks, Glen Lambert, Mike Granger, Steve Kelly. Rock White wins again Ray Scott Wrestling Steady improvement, more confidence, and better wrestling were all goals we set for our second year wrestling program at Fort Benton High School. There is no doubt in my mind that these goals were reached after measuring the success of our team and individuals this year. Next yqar's goal — to be contenders for the Class B-C state championship. This year's performance was highlighted at divisional tourna- ment when Gilbert Dawson placed second (138 lb. class) and Rick White placed third (heavyweight). Dawson is a one of the three senior lettermen who will be missed next year. Thanks to my coaching staff, managers, and team members for making this year a most enjoyable and successful one. Miracle Worker The MIRACLE WORKER was a very moving play about a young woman, named Anne Sullivan, who tries her luck to reach a small girl, Helen Keller, who was born blind and cannot speak. Anne herself has trouble with her eyes, but thinks of no one except Helen. All her efforts plus the sorrow and pain she endures are overcome when Helen finally realizes what objects are and says water . WINNIE-THE-POOH was an amusing play put on for the adults as well as the children of the community. The play focuses around a small bear who likes to eat and play, but faces a mother kangaroo who seems to find nothing to do besides clean-up the animals of the forest. The play was enjoyed by all.
