The year began with a tie with Harlowton and a close loss to Chouteau. The Longhorns lost the next two games to Shelby and Malta. Follow- ing the Malta game, came three wins over Chinook, Cut Bank, and Browning. We then lost the final game of the year to Conrad, the district co-champion. The Longhorns played their best games of the year against Browning and Malta. Next year should show an improvement over this year's record with eighteen returning lettermen. The entire district should be much stronger next year so it should prove to be an interesting year. I would like to thank the Fort Benton student Body for the support that they have given the Longhorns and me during the past two seasons. I have enjoyed coaching the team and I wish them continued success in the future. Mike Meredith, Head Football Coach. 22 All-Conference 23 Basketball ’69-’70 24 B Squad Bottom, 1. to r. M. Our record was not a real judge of our abilities. Had we been able to shoot free throws, we may have won six or seven more games. There are only two seniors on the team and this will give next year's team a real chance to win big. I would like to use this space to also wish all the seniors the best of luck in the future. Halley, J. Beauregard, R. Roller, Rick White, D. Ledgerwood, L. Cline, Coach Miller. Fort Benton's first year of wrestling can only be termed as great in my opinion. I was met by over thirty hopefuls this year whose enthusiasm and determination never failed even in the face of adversity. Like the proverbial duck, it is always very difficult to get your feet wet the first time, but after continual baptism this year we did get our heads above water for what I felt was a very successful season. I feel this was the most reward- ing year of my coaching career. Next year's team should be strong, as we lost only one senior through graduation which leaves two freshmen, three sophomores, and six juniors re- turning from last year's starting lineup. I am cer- tainly looking forward to Fort Benton's second year of wrestling. D. Miller 31 Girls Second in District Top row, 1. to r. The Speech and Drama program of FBHS made its strongest showing in the history of the school during 1969-70. Member- ship over a four year period increased from eight students to forty-two. This active organization won the drama sweepstakes at the Helena Invitational Meet and the drama sweepstakes trophy at the District Meet. On the state level, Fort Benton made the strongest showing in drama of any Class B school in attendance. The Speech and Drama team also made history by hosting for the first time the District 4 Meet. This event was very successful and increased interest in the program. Much credit goes to the Class of 1970 for its contribution of top rated dramatic talent that will be greatly missed on the FBHS stage and in speech and drama meets. How well he succeeds in the en- deavors of first grade, both scholastically and socially, often determine how successful he will be throughout school. Scholastic, social, and emotional conditions during the first year also have a detri- mental effect upon the personality of the individual as he grows and matures as a member of society.
