Then, work on the senior play and the senior float began. After that, sneak day gave the seniors a welcome break, but when they got back, the annual was due. Couples danced to the soft fascinating music of Lewis Schaurer's Orchestra and drank punch at a fringed booth. The year started out easy enough with the usual confusion over what class each person goes to and class officer elections. Jon Meredith was picked to be president; Martin Molinario, vice-president; Lynda Bramlette, secretary; Dale Nottingham, treasurer, and Jack Lepley was chosen as class sponsor. Then just as the juniors were getting used to school, homecoming week rolled around and the juniors had to start work on their float. It took a lot of time, but their float was judged best in the homecoming parade. Several months after the float the juniors had their annual play and following right on the heels of the play was the highlight of the year, the junior prom. The prom took a long time but the end results were worth it. Finally the hustle and bustle was over and the junior year came to a close. Hustling Longhorns Have Good Record The Longhorns opened the 1959 Foot- ball season with an 80 yard touchdown run from the kick-off. The Great Falls team seemed to lose heart as the game pro- gressed. All of the Fort Benton backs scored, making the total of 51 points for Fort Benton and 12 for Great Falls. Traveling to Choteau, the Longhorns won their second game of the season by defeating the Bulldogs 20-13. Fort Benton got the ball late in the fourth with the score tied up 13-13. With a series of good plays the Longhorns came up with a touch- down just as the final gun sounded. The Longhorns journeyed to Sunburst for their final nonconference game of the season. Putting on a second half rally they beat the Refiners 26-0. The Longhorns sailed into conference play on a winning streak with strong mor- al and a good team. The first conference game was with Chinook; it was a hard fought game, but when the final gun boomed out a goodby, the scoreboard had a 6-0 smile for the Longhorns. The second game was at Malta and was a morale shattering defeat for the Longhorns. Malta scored a touchdown in the first quarter of play, and though the Longhorns pounded back mercilessly they couldn't overcome the 6-0 lead of the Mustangs. The third game was the homecoming game for the Longhorns and they bounced back from their last defeat to soundly whip Harlem by a score of 57-13. The last game of the season was at Shelby. It was a hard fought game, but the Longhorns were beaten by a score of 41 -7 ending the conference in a three way tie with Chinook and Malta for second place in the North Central Conference.
