The first graduation class from Fort Benton. 1901. consisting of Hortense Chesnutt Taylor. John Culbertson. Anna Johnson Nottingham. and Vernon Lewis will he present for graduation. In 1940. the largest class. 55 seniors. graduated. ln direct contrast. 1909 produced hut one graduate. while in the year 1910 there was not a single senior. Increase in high school enrollment is due not only to the increase of population. hut also to a change in school policy. under which second- ary education is reaching more of AIllCl'lC'3..S youth. While fifty years ago approximately 10 percent of the high school age group attended school. largely college preparatory. today 90 percent are attending here. taking a wider variety of courses.
