SOPHOMORE CLASS HISTORY The sophomore year rs always a dull one There are none of the parns and happy sorrows of rnrtratron none of the work and plannrng of th class plays and of the other actrvrtres that come ID the last two years Desprte thrs tradrtron of sophomore class laxness thrs years class produced some outstandrng rndrvrdual members Jack Lepley proved hlmself to be an up and comrng valuable asset to the basketball team Emogene Anderson was a member of the cheerlead rng sectron Bernrce Cooper and Shlrley Spear were two of the hrgh schoo s begrnnrng baton twrrlers Donald Archer Charles Bradley and Jack Lepley were dependable men on the football team On Aprrl 11 members of the class had a party at whlch they danced the old tune folk dances The questron of dates for th1s partv was solved by the formatlon of a date bureau SOPHOMORE OFFICERS Presrdent Steve McSweeney Vrce Presrdent Donald Huffman Secretary Treasurer Mary Lou Cooper SPEECH DEPARTMENT Members of the Speech Class under the clrrectron of Mlss Mrldred Glover partrcrpated rn several actrvltres durrng the year In January the class selected ten students whose oratrons on The Prlvrleges and Responsrbrlrtres of an Amerrcan Crtrzen were above the average for the class to represent the class rn the local Amerrcan Legron Oratorrcal Contest Judges were Mrs Adrren Hess Mr Grover Schmrdt and Mr Vernon Lewrs Robert Oakland placed frrst Wrlma Blackwood second and Krkr Gray thrrd Robert represented Chouteau County rn the Drstrrct Cont st rn Great Falls March 24 and placed second On March 3 the Speech Class presented four one act pats for the publrc These rncluded three comedres A Vane Effort The Rrne and the Look and The Murders of Vlrrram and a dramatrc play The Unused Well The one act plays At the Vlovres and Mrxed Dates were presented before the student body March 23 That evenmg the last act of the Dolls House and the one act plav The Professor Roars were grven before the publrc COMMERCIAL DEP ARTMENT At the bottom of all plax programs drstrlbuted at the hrgh school a srnele statement reads Courtesy of the Comm rcral Department under the drrectron of Mrs Schmrdt Th1S stands for work an unceasrnv amount of rt It has been sard that the school would have a hard trme functronrng wrthout the work done bs the comrnercral department And so rt would The commercral students turn out al the programs for every play and program, as well as other related materral requested bv teachers In addltlon to thls spasmodrc work, they also regularly do the mechanrcal work on the Cannon Report The thanks of the entrre hrgh school should be extended to the department and to Mrs Schmrdt whose wrllrng cooperation at all trmes has not gone unnotrced Q ' ,V ,,.. . ,......,,.., ....,..,.,. .....,. . .
