PAGE 18 THE PIOHEER F B l'l S I sailed to Cuba and upon arriving there was greeted by Norma Jones who IS now the president of the Red Flannel Undl Company She has a thriving business and is considering branchlng out lnto other Latin American countries Dick Chappell who has a knee pants factorv in Egvpt IS financing her enterprise After going through the Panama Canal through whlch Donald Cronkhite had swum and obtained the title of Streak of Panama I arrived in I-Iawau wnere I attended a gala night performance where the leadlng entertalner a well known hula dancer was none other than Maurlen Ledger wood She achieved her success through the efforts of her brilliant instructor Bill Vischer Bill told me that Vern CIOllkhlff6 was the professor of physics at the Un1vers1'y of California Then I took a clipper up to Alaska To my surprise Betty Woodcock was our charming air hostess She said that among her passengers she had seen Christine Humes who is the personal maid of that famous movle actress Jean Jones Jean was voted the best dressed woman of 1954 I passed through the Falmer s Paradise in Alaska and there I saw Joe Bear who has a nice farm and is happily married to Lillian Stexnbacher Lllllan you remember was the flrst woman governor of Montana back in 1952 In Canada I came across John Fishbaugh who is one of the famous Mountles He has carried on the tradition of alwavs getting his man and his woman too Upon entering Seattle I visited Ellls Chaney who runs a fish hatchery there We attended a play and saw Donald Kurth in his famous characterization of Hamlet I went backstage afterwards and talked to Donald for awhile He sand that Margaret Lewis was in Salt Lake City running Dotty Lous Hamburger Inn I attended a rodeo ln Dallas Texas where Sam Owens was the champion steel rxder of Texas He says the longer the horns the better I like em From there I journeyed on to Washxngton D C and visited our first woman president of the United States Betty Johnson I started on my return trlp to my old Fort Benton home and Corporation While in Chicago we attended the Worlds Series where Charles Elliott was the star pitcher for the Cubs and Edgar Sykes star catcher Then I returned to Fort Benton where I found Frank Culbertson following ln the footsteps of his father I attended a dance at Hlghwood and there I met Irene Roude bush Zanto She was thoroughly exasperated at having to pay two dollars for hiring someone to take care of her off spring You know he has the reputation of being the rough neck of Highwood Irene told me that Mary Embleton is an athletic instructor at the University of Montana I also visited Virginia Murray Fox in Fort Benton She and her husband run a large dairy there in partnership with her brother in law and his wife They also have a iabblt farm I thlnk I have gossipped enough so I had better slgn off I am g0lIlg to return to Egvpt to Join my husband and five sons next month I give you mv best wishes for a successful year serving as professor of Yale College Respectfully yours Mrs Dorothy Manley Nevland 39 SFNIUR PIAl The senior play Parents and Pigtails a comedy in three acts was presented December 2 The plot was built around a typical American family who became deeply involved ln a quarrel due to confllctlng plans for spending a years vacation Leading characters were Maurlen Ledgerwood who portrayed the part of Mrs Robinson Donald Clonkhlte as Dudley Robinson her husband Sandra Dorothea Dickens Pat Margaret Lewis and Elalne Elinor Schmidt as members of the Robinson family Sam Decker a frlend Ray Fenton Ken Bristol a radio announcer Keith Gordon John Richards an insurance salesman and minor characters Willa Jean Gal bralth Norma Jones Grace Marty Dorothv Manley and Lewis Neyland The play was most successful and all members of the cast contrlbuted to make t a productlon to be remembered stopped in Chicago to see Jack Chappell who is the president of the Willing Meat Packers 4. - 1- - Y .
