Principal’ Message To the Graduates: As the doors of Fort Ashby High School close for the last time, the corridor of life opens the door for you, the sen- iors, of 1976. The unique honor of being the thirty-sixth and last graduating class of Fort Ashby High School belongs to you. As teacher, I fondly remember the seventeen members of the first graduating class of 1941; and, now, as princi- pal, I congratulate you, the fifty-five graduates of 1976. It seems appropriate, that during our Nation's Bicenten- nial Year, we recognize all of our past graduates in this final memorial issue. Treasured memories and forgotten trials are cherished by each of us, past and present includ- ing students, faculty, parents, custodians, bus drivers, cooks and all school personnel who have assisted in mold- ing the character of our school. Life is a process of time, involvement and change. Four years ago, I regretfully said farewell to Fort Ashby High School due to health reasons. But, this year, I returned because of the capable assistance and concern of an unselfish and dedicated educator - Mr. Quentin Sayers. Mr. Sayers, former coach and teacher, has acted as assistant principal for me for so many years. He has opened many doors for the young people of Fort Ashby and has rightfully earned the respect from the school and community. The dignity of teaching and the joy of serving and helping others have been his primary concern for the past twenty-two years. Mr. Sayers was one who not only planted knowledge in the classroom, for he was able to awaken interest in the challenge of education, but also presented more than the wisdom from the page of a text book for he culti- vated the lesson of example in the youth of Fort Ashby High School. I extend my sincere appreciation to my ‘right hand man and assistant principal for making 1976 a progressive and memorable year. My thirty-four years of service began simply in an eight graded, one room schoolhouse at Barnum, W. Va. After serving as principal and teacher in the four room school at Short Gap, I came to Fort Ashby High School. My years in the changing educational profession have been challenging and rewarding. The seniors work, effort and dedication of many students, parents, teachers and personnel have made the process of education in our community possible. It was once stated that ''The character of a school is established by the faculty; the reputation of a school is determined by the students.'’ Education is a necessary doorway which you must enter and exit in order to travel the corridor of life. I sincerely hope we did our best to prepare you for the future you seek. The doors may close, but the memories and dreams will always remain. Congratulations and Good Luck, IptiincMgehe
