MISS ANNA BOSLEY and MR, THOMAS PYLES FOREWORD We, the staff of the 1968 Fortress, hope that this book will bring many reflections of the friends, the hap- piness, the sorrows, and the experi- ences of the past years. We also wish to express our appreciation to those whose help made this annual possible. TABLE OF CONTENTS. Her contributions are quiet ones: She gives advice; she becomes involved in the activities and efforts of the student body; she knows where things are, who’s supposed to be where and when, and what’s going on and why. For all she is to them, for all she does for them and for the entire school, the 1968 Fortress Staff dedicates this book to our secretary, Mrs. Frances Alkire. JOY God sent us Joy down from heave above, For eighteen years she was ours to love. Not very long to live on this earth For one so happy and full of mirth. Happy-go-lucky, wanting to have fun, Always with a joke for everyone. Her life was filled with sickness and pain In and out of the hospital again and again. Most of us, I'm sure, would complain and fuss If we had to bear even half as much; But amid all her suffering Joy could smile Oh, I'm okay, she'd say in her inimitable style. Yes, we'll always remember Joy -- her laugh and her song; Though her body's not here her spirit lives on. We know she is happy now and free from pain, And we would not wish her back here again. But we want to say, Thank you, God above, For sending us Joy to know and to love. by Kathryn Moreland ADMINISTRATION PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE SENIORS: As this year draws to a close, search your hearts to rediscover those things which give meaning to your life at Fort Ashby High School. Some will remain, for one reason or another, vivid in your memories. Others will grow insignificance with the passage of time. These we call endearing values-- qualities such as honesty, courage, perseverance, justice, and respect. Your education, whether in school or out, is just beginning. It is a process which will continue throughout your lives. Choose wisely as youmake your decisions, for each will help fashion your most priceless possession, your character. Though every man and woman dreams of doing some great and good deeds, we should remember that it is the little things in life that count. Try to do some of the little things each day that make this world a more joyous place in which to live, Finally, may I wish for each of you the happiness and satisfaction for which you seek. ?
